I am makeing a massage oil for my brother, and want to use sesame oil and put a stick of cinnamon in it to scent it. I know I can add essential oil to the sesame, but can i just put in a stick of cinnamon?? or hey another brainstorm for my sis, lavender?
Has anyone tried it?

Since you make alot of massage oils, what oil do you use? I was using ( before I knew beter) baby oil, but didnt want the yuck, a cousin suggested sesame oil, Nutregena makes one and so does Equate, actually marketed in the cosmetic department. I want to use straight "food quality" sesame oil. I am still in the creative thinking stage. "hey, it could happen, why not try?" So, I am lookng for answers to questions I have not thought up yet. what advice can you give me?

Tami,
Food grade sesame oil is perfectly fine. In fact, it was used by Ayeurvedic healers(from India)for massage for thousands of years.
Also used for massage is almond oil, grapeseed oil or solid coconut oil, which melts at 80 degrees (or as soon as you get it in your hands!) In a pinch, you can even use olive oil.
If you decide to use the cinnamon stick, I would warm the oil gently (less than 100 degrees) and put the stick in it for a few hours and then take it out. One note on essential oil of cinnamon: Use it sparingly, just one or two drops, because it can be really irritating to the skin. I prefer to infuse dried ginger into oil for a warming massage and it isn't quite as irritating as cinnamon.
Check out this website, there is TONS of information re: essential oils and carrier oils that you might find helpful.
I order from them all the time and am really impressed with their products and service.

just so you know, i'm a massage therapist and i use sacred earth botanicals. they are vegan, organic, unscented, all that good stuff and GREAT quality. if i need a scent i just mix up a small batch with EO's. i personally use the cream which is great for massage-good glide and stays workable for almost as long as oil, but sinks into the skin leaving it really soft. i use it as handcream also.
google sacred earth botanicals and it will take you to their site.

I think someone said already but cinnamon is not a good oil for massage. Even a small amount can be irritating. But, yes you can put the cinnamon stick in the oil. You can put the stick in the oil and set it in the sun for a short time. The cinnamon will infuse into the oil.
