I got offered a job that is in a not to fantastic part of town and the pay is Ok and I should be grateful it is a job. Having said that, I have a huge feeling something else is going to come along and until then, I can continue housekeeping to keep money rolling in. This job is more along the lines of social work with a lot of admin. which I have done before but do not enjoy and it would be a huge cut in pay to take it. I didn't get a good vibe from the office itself and I know that sounds silly but I just don't feel right about taking the job. I have until the Friday after next to make my decision and I know something else is going to come along. Is it so wrong to be so choosy?? I would hate to start a job I didn't have my heart in just for the paycheck and hate getting up everday. I am very sensitive to my work environment and if I get down, it kills my day.

Maybe it's not you being too choosy. Maybe it's your gut instinct. I've learned to trust mine over the last few years. So long as you have a job that you enjoy and keeps your bills paid, I would just let it ride out and see what happens next.

| i agree, go with your gut instinct! wait, get out and continue to network....and then see what happens. in the meantime, it sounds like you are being cautious, ie., watching your expenses and pulling in money any other way you can.....but i'd hold out a little longer! good luck!! |

It's the first job offered to me and I put out 14 resumes this weekend alone, so I am still in the wait and see, waiting for a phone call phase on a lot of them. I have worked in housekeeping for years as a summer job and it keep food on the table and some gas in the tank and it is flexible enough that if I do have to go to an interview, I can take the time off. I just don't feel right about this job and yes, I would keep interviewing even if I took this job, so that should say something. Thanks!!!

Heather, I think you've answered your own question!
I agree with everyone else who said to trust your instincts. If this was the "right" job, you'd be posting all over the place about how happy you are about it, right? Don't settle for less, especially if you know it will not fulfill you. Just hang in there until something comes along that you will enjoy, and that will match or exceed the pay you are bringing home now...

Thanks for backing me up ladies---sometimes a gal just needs a little encouragement. I am applying for jobs a step above what I was doing in the military and I have entered into a new realm of employment- I am applying for more management positions as I have a very strong and long military background, which leadership, discipline and moral, values and standards are held high. I want to get that across. I don't want to be just a secretary- nothing wrong with the job just have done it for over 10 years and I am ready to move on.
