Got off work a bit early & said I'd make my way home Via the Yard Sales!! Well i had all of $6.00 whole dollars in my wallet so I said What ever I find thats what I'll spend before I get home..! (Course I had a debit card & checks.. but actually.. i don't work all that far from home.. so really.. $6.00 was going to just fine.!)
Anyway.. 1st & only Stop.. Stopped & this Guy was the type that seemed to notice everything you were looking at.. I was scoping out the 1st of one old wooden Jewelry box.. had some junk inside.. & he says "Take the box & all for a buck.. " cool deal.. i move on to the 2nd jewelry box.. he says "You can have that one .. same deal for $2.00.." ok, says me.. & i look at the last one.. bigger.. & much fuller.. & glance at my new friend.. he holds up 3 fingers.. sold.. then I find a smaller box actually very cute.. nothing inside.. i says to my pal throw this one in for the deal at $6.00.. he says "done.."
so.. Here's my loot Girls.. Four nifty old wooden jewelry boxes.. The 3rd actually turned out to be a music box to boot! & all sorts of buttons.. pins .. watches pieces.. earings.. bobs.. rings.. & other assorted doo dads! So.. not a bad lot of stuff for my $6.00 I thought.. & if nothing else.. I have some cute little boxes to store my sewing things in after my neices have plundered through the jewels!

The Black Box Contents: A couple of the Gems look a bit interesting!

The Treasure box.. This is the one with the teeny little lock on it.. & it actually still had the keys with it too.. So sweet! This one held the least.. but it's cedar lid still smelled so pretty!

Here it is closed..

& Finally the last & Largest Box.. It held the most.. & once i had gotten to it.. I was able to pair up most of all the earings! I've removed all the little drawers to show off all the bits.. & turned it sideways to show the musical turn.. "She" had saved so many funny little things in her jewelry boxes.. & had been an avid bowler too.. several bowling Pins..! & other sweet little rememberances.. this photo also has a better close up of that smaller litte 3 drawer 'freebie' i got too..

Rockin!!! You crack me up, Kathie...I felt like I was right there with you while you were scouting at this guy's sale. What a hoot!
Hey, that brooch with the fancy lady---hand painted or a screened on design on porcelain? Also, that Indian head pin is WAY cool. Put that on your jean jacket, momma!!!!!

You know of all of the things I think what may be asomething i might have to chek into jonni is right by that brooch.. see that bluish stone sitting on the ledge there on the black box? that one could turn out to be something.. & funny.. they don't look like much.. but those silver earings right there by the brooch are really interesting.. I think most everything else will be fun for the kids to play with unless i decide I want to claim it for crafting or something.. I love that the keys are still there for the lock to the one box though too.. that was really sweet!..

I saw that stone, too...You'd be surprised what folks give away as nothing, (especially men). Also, even though some of it is costume, check to see if any pieces are signed. Especially pieces from the 1950's and 1960's.

| Is that a compact in the lid of the cedar box...right hand corner? some of those are very collectible too. Love those cedar boxes, have a whole tote of them! Especially if they were souveniers of a vacation spot. Love all the goodies. Ladies jewelry boxes had fun stuff like their sewing boxes. Someone's grandma was a bowler it appears. Great finds Kathie. How fun!! |

You certainly got your money's worth. What a haul, they are all sweet boxed and they are filled with treasure to boot. You did very well, girl. Nothing more fun than finding something with yet another something inside . I think you and the nieces should wear all the jewelry at once and go to Vegas...you would all be dazzlers. Karin

Kathie, Love all the boxes. You sure did get a good deal. They are all so nice. Now I wonder if the deal would have been different if you were dealing with a woman instead of a man? Nancy Jo

Is that a compact I spy in the treasure box? Those go for nice $$ at our consignment shop. (Oh, I see Ronna has already mentioned it!)
Fun story and great finds!

Look everything over again - there may be some good stuff - "gooder" than you think! What a fun trip home, and all the boxes are wonderful.

I love a good deal, especially when you buy from a guy. It just seems like more fun.

I do.. I love saling period.. But sometimes they are just happy to be rif of the stuff anyway.. I know alot of times they are trying to hurry up before she makes it home.. but in this case.. i'm thinking it was someones that wasn't around anymore.. so It's fun to try to think of what she was like.. like her.. I said had to be into bowling.. lots of bowling 'pins' & things.. also.. she had a couple pins from Oklahoma.. so She was either from there.. or knew someone there or maybe had just been there or something.. but.. she was a flashy one at one time..
& no.. it wasn't a compact.. but a pill box.. so it was newer actually.. still cute enough..
always frun to go through someone elses stash though.. isn't it?
Once a couple years ago I was at a sale & this woman had bags & bags of beads & buttons that she had for jewelry making.. I was picking through all of it.. deciding what i might want & I kept going back to this one bag.. they were sort of a funny ivry colored carved beads.. but rather bigger.. i couldn't quite decide really what I would use them for.. Something about them were just odd.. & there was so much dust & crud in the bag it was hard to make out what the carvings were.. finally i had a sick feeling about them & i looked at the old woman & I said are these bones? & she said yes.. they were.. I asked if she knew from what.. She just looked at me a bit too long & said she wasn't sure.. i decided i didn't want them.. but it was the eeriest feeling.. I just didn't feel like they were animal bones.. My mother in law & i got in the car & drove for a few minutes & I looked at her.. She said i want to wash my hands.. don't you? i said yep! it was just ick or something.. can't really explain it.. The woman was foreign... i could quite place the accent.. But I'd have to say that was the strangest experience i've had at a yard sale.. Asside from being hit on.. or being offered illegal substances..
Wow.. that conversation really took a turn.. huh?
