Everyday skirts...simplicity usually has some really good patterns. I get mine from Walmart most of the time. McCalls patterns seem to run big so I try to keep away from those. Theres a good selection but I find that the full longer ones were easy to do things in. Jumpers are good too as long as the skirt is full. I can't remmeber the pattern numbers though. hope that helps Jess

I have that skirt book too, it is very inspirational though I;ve only made two skirts so far, one for my daughter and one for a friend of my son. It is such a treat to see something that has so many wonderful pictures, I might have to make myself a skirt one of these days...Karin

I can take a picture of my skirts, but they are really ordinary - the denim skirt is a heavyweight denim that I made out of some denim I had purchased at Wal-Mart to make some kid's overalls for my business. When I got it home and layed it out, one side (the side that was down when she was cutting it of course) had some what look like bleach spots on it. I live too far from Wal-Mart to take it back, so I used it for my skirt. Makes a good "everyday" skirt. The kahaki one is ordinary too - just straight with elastic. I'll wait until I make the dress I have cut out and the black skirt today to take pictures, but everything is really simple and plain. When I lose some more weight, I'll start making the fancy stuff LOL!

Finished my dress last night about 11 pm and tried it on. It's a little too big - wearable, but next time I'll make the next smaller size. That's nice for a change! Anyway, I added pockets with rickrack to tie in the bodice fabric and the pockets were too low! So, instead of going to bed like someone with sense, I sat up, blearly eyed, and picked the stitching out of the pockets and moved them up a few inches. I'm surprised I didn't rip a big hole in the skirt as sleepy as I was. But, it worked out fine and now I have a new dress - cotton with rick-rack - made of remnants - true farmgirl style!!

Do you have any fabric stores near you? I have Joann's and Hancock here (50 miles away). I watch there ads close, almost every holiday (major or minor)they have patterns on sale for a buck. I them check them out on line at McCalls or Simplicity. They I can just get them out of the drawers. i have a very large pattern collection. I have noticed that Butterick tends to be rather high waisted that what is fashioable these days. I have a short torso and I notice that they pants tend to ride up to my ribs. Its not a pleasant feeling.
