Hi!

I joined this forum way back when and can't find my original info, so I'm introducing myself again!!

I am most proud to say I'm a farm girl & I've got dirt in my veins!! I was a farmer for 20 years raising commodity crops and non-cert organic veggies through a CSA, restaurants, on-farm stand and a farmer's market. That stopped 8 years ago upon my divorce which left me without a farm! Horrors!!!

I moved, got another farm, and a job managing a Tractor Supply store. While working those, my oldest daughter contracted Lyme's disease (she'd had it when she was 5 and it came back to bite--HARD--at 17). So I quit my demanding job, sold all my farm equipment and went to farrier school so I could have a more steady income with a flexible schedule and be there when she needed me--we had very frequent dr visits and 3 emergency room visits for swollen glands that were blocking off her air supply so having a schedule I could adjust was most important.

I developed a very good farrier business but was injured last year and can no longer safely shoe a client's horse (tore the ligaments in my ankle). I still shoe my own cuz I make 'em behave, but to be under a horse that's pulling and jerking, I can't be safe so I had to find other work. Now, gulp--I sit at a desk--gulp, I work as a graphic designer both for myself (I do digital scrapbook supplies I sell online) and for a garment printing firm. So far I've been able to accept the change since I'm pretty much my own boss but I just can't get used to being in one place--INSIDE of all things--8 hours a day. I've considered opening a shoeing school for girls but I'm afraid liability costs would prevent me getting that going.

Anyway, I've read through many threads here and feel I'm with kindred spirits!

Howdy Liz! I'm so glad you came back. Heavens missy-you have been thru it haven't you? I hope things settle down for you. I think a farrier school for women is a great idea-you just never know. Anyway, I'm glad you're here :)

Welcome Liz,
We're neighbors. I live in Floyd. How cool is this? We also have a chapter if you're interested.

Hi Liz, I'm new to the site, too. I noticed your posting because my family lives in Southwestern Virginia, too. Are you anywhere near Big Stone Gap, or Pennington Gap?
Welcome!

Hi Liz, welcome to the forum. Boy life just likes to bounce us around sometimes but you seem to be doing a great job riding the waves! Would love to hear more about your digital scrapbooking business. Do you have a web-site or Etsy?
I know exactly where you are, a lovely part of the country. Last year we stayed overnight in Hillsville on our way home from FL. A big flea market huh! Hmmm, your'e about 10 hours from me so, boy I will not be able to make it! Shucks!
Anyway, visit us at the farm here when you need a distraction! Always something going on!
Angie.

Welcome Liz!

I was just in Williamson, W.V. a few weeks back. Are you near there? You have what we call "grit" to be able to emerge from the billows of life's storms and still function. You are not afraid to do what needs to be done. You GO GIRL!!
I live in South Central Kentucky on a farm and was raised on a farm. There is nothing like being a farmgirl. I think that farmgirls are born with "grit".
