My 10 year old nephew has a SEVERE allergy to soy. He gets shots weekly and my sister has to read every food label. It seems everything has soy in it, but they are soooooo careful. However, his blood levels keep showing the allergy to be worsening instead of getting better???!! Has anyone ever experienced this before that the allergy gets worst? This is so different from seasonal allergies and way more dangerous!

Yes--food allergies can get worse--and they can get better--or they can disappear entirely! Soy is one of the most common food allergies--right up there with wheat, gluten, corn, tree nuts, shell fish, and probably a few others that don't come to mind at this moment. Often food allergies can originate from even a single round of antibiotics. It is not commonly known that antibiotic use can cause damage to the intestinal lining and cause it to become permeable and start leaking microscopic undigested food particles resulting in what is known as "leaky gut syndrome" (in addition to killing off the "good bugs" that we need for general health in our intestinal tract). Microscopic food particles floating around in the blood stream can cause the body to create antibodies resulting in the symptoms we know as "allergies." Often these allergies are "delayed-onset" with symptoms showing up hours, even days later--thus making it difficult to determine the allergen, save a special and expensive blood test. (We're all familiar with the immediate onset reactions). A neutraceutical grade multi-vitamin with plenty of neutraceutical grade calcium and magnesium along with L-Glutamine night prove valuable in helping to heal a leaky gut. A Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine could put your nephew on a healing path, rather than merely treating the symptoms of the allergy itself.

even though she is reading label she needs to be careful of anything that say vegetable oil. most of the time it is soy but doesn't always specify. I have a friend who is allergic to soy and going out to eat is hard for here. Some restaraunts she can't do at all. mayonaise and ketchup have soy!
