My mom has been very ill for some years now and she usually requires at least two hospital stays a year. She has congestive heart failure, is severely anemic at this time, bad diabetic, and has COPD. Her doctor just called ahead to the hospital and they've called an ambulance to take her in. I went at lunchtime to get her ready to go to the doctor and she barely had enough energy to stand to let me help her dress. She's so very pale and is so swollen from the fluid build-up from the congestive heart failure. I think she should have been admitted last week but the doctor wanted to wait for some reason. Now he's told my father she's probably drowning in her own fluids. Sorry if I'm rambling here but I'm a bit upset. If something happens to mom I don't know what I'll do, she's my best friend. I'm at work right now and can't leave for another hour and a half or so. Mom had a stroke several years ago and as a result it's made her weaker, she can walk with a walker but usually is in her wheelchair.
Please if you wouldn't mind, say a prayer and/or send positive thoughts and energies our way. I'm not doing too well either, my sugar levels have been very high the past few days. I'm drained and feel like I'm in a fog. That's probably due to stress I think. Thanks so much for reading, you all mean a lot to me. I'll probably be at the hospital for the next several days (her hospital stays vary between 4 to 10 days) but I'll check in and let you all know what's going on. Thanks again.

I just got in from the hospital to rest up a bit and thought I'd leave an update. They are giving her meds to reduce the fluids from the heart failure and they put some nitro paste on her skin over her heart. It caused her blood pressure to get really low. At one time it read 50 / 37 in the ER before she got to her room. I alerted the ER nurse to this and she thought to take that paste off. It took a while for her blood pressure to get back to somewhat normal levels, although even today it's still kind of low. Mom is not as bad anemic as we thought, but her white blood cell count was 25,000. The doctor told us this is very high and that there is some kind of infection going on. The skin on her legs has broken again, due to the congestive heart failure, and it looks really red. He thought the infection might be there.
I stayed with her last night and came home to get a bit of rest. She doesn't like to stay alone so my dad and I will take turns staying with her. Also she doesn't have the strength to get up much or even change positions in the bed. We didn't sleep any last night because mom started to panic as she couldn't breathe well due to the build up of fluids. I think as the fluids leave her body she will feel much better, that is what usually happens when she goes in for this. Thanks for any prayers and good thoughts her way.

Lainey, Thinking of you late tonight as I read this thread. Prayers for you, your mom and Dad. For you for your blood sugars to level so it makes it easier for you. For your mom, relief from water build up and rest, for your dad and you rest in between being with mom. Hugs and hugs and hugs. CS

Thanks so much for your prayers, good thoughts, and hugs, they mean so much. Mom is still in the hospital but is supposed to be released later today. She has to go back Monday and have a bone marrow test. Her white blood cell count is still very high and has not responded to antibiotics so far. In the past year and a half or so my mom has had to go into the hospital to get blood transfusions due to anemia, and sometimes it's been severe. I've been afraid ever since then because I thought it might be something more than just anemia. They never knew where the blood was going. She has lost quite a bit of the fluid she had in conjuction with the congestive heart failure but she's still not feeling that well and is pretty weak. If you wouldn't mind please keep her in your thoughts and/or prayers. Thanks again everyone, your kindness has touched me more than you know.
