I love housework. A lot of people do not and don't take a pride in their home. If you keep on top of it , it will not get out of hand. Do you agree with me that although most people work these days they should spend time regularly dusting etx. Just to see my house immaculate is such a pleasure. |

I've posted before that I'm a sort of neat freak.
I have a minimalist style of decorating, it's a cottage look but I hate seeing more than three things on a tabletop.
It isn't so much that I love to clean but I love the result. When my house is in order, the floors sparkle and there isn't a mite of dust anywhere, I feel I can finally relax and either get to work (I am self-employed) or have the "permission" to get out the sewing machine and have some fun.
My 2 dogs make it a little more challenging. Much as I love them I abhor "dog smell" and I don't want to see dog hair anywhere except on them. I sweep up twice a day and mop once, and they are not permitted on the furniture.
I love baskets. Closets can look so cluttered so easily, and sweaters never stay neatly stacked on a shelf no matter how hard I try. So I roll them up and put them in a lined basket. Every basket gets a nice looking label so when the hubby opens it up he can see where everything is.
I think for many people these days - dusting and cleaning get done when they have a chance. People work full time, for most people, their jobs are not fun. Housework isn't fun, and there are other activities that give folks more satisfaction, like gardening or knitting or scrapbooking. Things they can have pride they grew or made - and as long as nobody is coming over, who cares what the house looks like? |

I too have two dogs and hate dog hair. Thus I vacuum every single day. I swear I could build another dog from what comes out of these two! But the worst part of my house to keep clean is my kitchen floor. It is the entrance to my house, a farm house, and it's white ceramic tile! Every single speck of dust shows. I love my house to be neat and orderly and work hard on the "clean" aspect. I do the everyday "lobotomy" chores, ie make the beds, do the laundry, empty the dishwasher...but I also run my farm entirely by myself so it's a matter of what takes priority. Sometimes I ask myself if I were to die tomorrow, would I rather be remembered as having a dust free house or by the good vegetables I could grow and things I could create. Lordy I'm rambling...have a great day folks. Today I must get the last of the fall rye seeded and a ramp built to get my little tractor into the barn as it's supposed to start raining on Thursday and here on the wet coast, you never know if it might stop before March or not.
Live a good and honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time. |

I agree there is a certain calming feeling to coming home to a neat and orderly home. Unfortunately, it only happens when the darling husband is out of town. He can make messes faster than I can clean them up. He has other wonderful qualities so I had to make a decision not to let this destroy our relationship and that took a few years of being fighting mad all the time.
I will say, in his defense, that he DOES care when things upset me. I just pick my battles so that he does not become indifferent. He has learned to put the dishes into the dishwasher instead of the sink, to throw clothes into the hamper, not onto the floor, etc. We are still working on closing vanity and dresser drawers as well as pantry and linen closet doors. ![](icons/icon_smile_shy.gif)
When I was single everything was spotless . There are days when I really miss that. These days, the house is usually clean enough that a "10 minute tidy" will render it ready for company.
One thing I have discovered, if I get overwhelmed with work and family obligations and cannot do any housework for a few days, it is still there waiting for me when I get back. Isn't that amazing! SO, it's not like I miss out on anything by not cleaning everyday .

I'm a little crazy about having a clean house, I was brainwashed as a child. Anyway it's all in vain because living with my arstist/scienist husband and my SO many projects it's really hard to keep up with everything. But I try.

Not loving housework doesn't mean people aren't proud of their homes. I like a clean house but there are other things more important to me. Time is short, both literally during the day and figuratively in life. When I am on my death bed I won't be thinking I wished I'd kept an immaculate house. I imagine I'll be wishing I had more time for family.

Lucinda you sound like me! The first two years of our marraige I had a terrible time being patient and learning not to take it personally that DH just tosses dirty laundry on the floor, doesn't close dresser drawers, leaves things out all the time, etc. I felt it was a personal affront - like "you the wife, you clean up behind me." The truth is, he isn't even aware of it and doesn't quite understand why it upset me so much!
I too had a SPOTLESS place when I lived by myself. And there are still days that I miss that perfection, knowing that when I come home, the place will be as nice and clean and tidy as I left it! I loved my little apartment that I had then, mostly because for the first time I didn't have roomies that messed up behind me too. lol
Anyways, I am self-employed. First thing I do in the morning when he leaves for work is clean up the mess he made the night before. At least I have a few hours where the house is spotless. :) |
