I had to drop my internship for the summer. I couldn't do it because they want me to work 40 hours for 2 weeks, but I couldn't possibly handle the schedule between getting Charlie to daycare, which opens at 7, and making it to the hospital, between traffic and distance, I would not make it there by 8. Then getting out at 4:30, it would be almost 6 before I got back to Charlie. I had to put my foot down and drop the class until hubby gets back. The director of the internship just won't work with me. I don't see how I am any different than people who have full time jobs. I have all of July "off" to do this and they can't work with me but I refuse to compromise my families well being for a class. I can do it next spring and so be it. The upside is I found a little part time job for the summer that I can bike to down the road and the break will be good. YEAH!!! Things do happen for a reason.
I can only imagine how hard it is for working moms and dads who don't have a choice.

Heather- I am so sorry your internship didn't work out. That is always disappointing, but it sounds like you would have been _really_ stressed trying to make it work- not to mention missing so mch time with Charlie!
You are absolutely right. It isn't the last time you can have an internship, and things will be easier once your hubby is back home again. I too am often in awe of how single parents make it!

I swear everything happens for a reason as a nice little 30 hour a week job with flexible hours has popped up. I definitely need a break from school. I haven't stopped since March 2006 and have gone straight through. I completed 3 years of schooling in 2 years. I don't want to over stretch myself and Charlie is only little once. I like daycare because he has fun and I get alot done but at the end of the day, I miss him and want to have fun!!! I sometimes feel like colleges put pressure on students to get money and though my program and professors are awesome, they can't seem to grasp that my child and me come first. I was only doing this class to get it out of the way, but it will come around again.
I like the idea of working for a change of pace.
