do any of your husbands play on a vintage baseball league? My husband is on a team that plays 1860 rules

life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and
screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Not married, but how cool is that! I've never heard of it! Vintage uniforms too?

Omg, Kim, you've never heard of it??? I just went to a game last week! I absolutely LOVE vintage baseball! My sweetie doesn't play, unfortunately, but he likes to go to games & watch with me. Kim, all the players are in handmade uniforms, play 100% by 1859 rules, have no gloves, etc. etc. They all have goofy nicknames & drink from flasks, and lord help the guy who shows up in shorts instead of the regulation long pants. Last game, one feller got fined 25 cents per leg, for showing too much skin. There's a lady in prairie skirts walking around with a basket, selling popcorn & drinks, and the umpire explains plays to the crowds. It's really one of the most enjoyable ways to spend an afternoon. Our local team, the Creston Regulators, plays on a field that's bordered by cornfields on two sides, and when the late afternoon sun slants across the sod field, it's just magical.

Yeah, I love vintage baseball.

I was glad to hear of someone else interested in the game. My husband plays on our local team and we also travel. Last year went to St. Louis. Our youngest daughter is also involved. Our time period is 1863 again, with no glove. 25 cents was a weeks wage!!!! We had 56 "cranks" at our last game. "cranks" meaning spectators. Good to chat with you.

Oh, Heather, You'll have to let me know the next time, I'd love to go. Baseball is my favorite sport on top of it. I didn't even know they had games like this in the area. On of my favorite vacations in high school was to Cooperstown!
