When your child walks into a room? I once heard Maya Angelou say, that every child deserves to have it's mom's eyes light up when they walk into a room.. and that has always stuck with me and it has been the one thing as a mom that I wanted to make sure I did....SO I guess that is why, one of the first things that "jumped" off the pages of MaryJanes Idea book.. was her description of Meg.. "Of all the flowers I have grown. my daughter is the most beautiful".(page 16). I didnt have that as my birth mom died when I was 8 and then I was adopted - and while now that I am an adult we are friends.. it wasnt and isnt a mother-daughter type of thing. But I know from my own experiences... because I have been gifted with the most amazing friends - who have maothered and nutured me.. that what Maya said is so true.... with Mother's day here this weekend.. I thought it would be great to give tribute to those women that came a long side us.. who's eyes lit up when we walk into a room...........I have the most amazing women in my life that cheer me on.... and are there for every bump and every accomplishment and I would love to hear about yours...Happy mother's day to all.

Rene-

I can't help but glow when my daughter is in the room. She is the light of my life and it is hard to believe at one point I didn't even want to have kids! Now if I could have 5 or 6 more like her, I would be happy!

But the person that really deserves the credit is MY mom! She is an amazing woman! She is strong, creative, loving, and full of wisdom. If my mom doesn't know the answer to a question, she helps me find the answer. She is wonderfully talented- so creative! We didn't always get along when I was little. But she was always there for me no matter what I had done or how bad we had fought the minute before. I also believe she saved my life by recognizing that I had food allergies as a baby/child that presented in an emotional (anger) reaction rather than the typical hives or rash.

Today, I can hardly go a day without talking to my mom! Nora brings me the phone every evening and wants to call grandma- it's so cute! I consider my mom one of my best friends, and her friendship is one of my most cherished possessions.

Alee, I feel the same way about my mom. Aren't we so blessed to have had them in our lives? My mom is so strong (she's been through a lot) and yet she still has the will to go on and be a wonderful, amazing, loving person. I've had people ask me how I got to be so thoughtful and kind (not bragging, just stating what other people have told me) and I always tell them that I was so very lucky as I was brought up with a lot of love and I always had a wonderful mom. Sometimes we forget how lucky we are when we are blessed with the people in our lives. Letters like the one's I just read always remind me, so thanks everyone and heartfelt (((hugs))) to every one on this wonderful, amazing, lovely board.

Rene- My silly hubby decided to chat with some friends online last night- literally chat- with a voice program. He does this almost every night but usually remembers to close the door. Last night he forgot so his lovely bass rumble woke me up.

Marcy- Yes, I feel very blessed to have my mom. I learn more from her every day, and being a mom myself now, I appreciate her more each day as well! It is so fun to learn that we share so many interests! BTW- she is on this forum too! Her forum name is Sage! :D

Usually, yes my eyes do light up, even if the feeling isn't reciprocated. You know how kids are when they are a bit older..."Mom is so lame and not cool..." kind of attitude.

Although there are days where the light is a dim flicker, instead of a bright floodlight.

Part of my mom's day was delayed as my two oldest boys are in the Military.. Thomas was out on some excercises in the desert in AZ and Lucas on a ship in the Gulf of Mexico.... Thomas did call Sunday night and Lucas was able to get a call out this morning at 4:00 am....I know that my whole body lights up.. not because they are perfect... but I am just so overwhelmed sometimes by the honor of being a mom. ... and I am not a perfect one at all.. I have just learned to say I am sorry! I have 4boys. and my youngest wrote on a card he made in Sunday School... "I love my mom.. becasue she loves me.. I can see it in her eyes.... I cried all day long.. He is 10.. of course it was damped some when my 17 year old chimed in that he would be able to see it better is I gave him a 20 for gas.... smarty pants!!!

Oh Rene! That is too funny! You know your kids love you when they gently tease like that! I think it shows a confidence in the parent/child relationship. I know sometimes I was overly smart with my parents, but I only teased them because I knew they loved me, and they knew I loved them too. Sometimes it got me in trouble though! LOL (I deserved it!)

Rene- what ship is your son on?? Just wondering. Is he Coast Guard or Navy? My hubby is in the Navy.

I read somewhere you should always greet the one's you love as if you are a dog- you know how they wag their little butts back and forth, are so excited to see you. I keep that in the back of my mind when I see my son or hubby or anyone else. And yes, I wag my tail for them. Hubby thinks it cute!!!

Alee - How blessed is Nora to have a mom that gets it....

Heather - HAHA I have never heard it said that way.. but it leaves a visual that I love and will keep. My second born Lucas is on the US Cutter Eagle - it is a "tall ship" with the Coast Guard.. He teaches rescue swimming, and is a medic. He loves it! My other son (first born) Is in the Marine Corp - stationed in Yuma AZ.... SO if there are any farmgirls in Yuma?????????????????/

Rene- I have been to Yuma many times and have been to the bases out there. Yuma is starting to grow, so maybe more than the retired folks will be out there. Where is Lucas stationed? Corpus?

Lucas is stationed out of New London CT.. Spends time at the Academy when he isnt on the water - He is in Pre Med. Thomas was a Junior at WSU in Engineering before going into the Marine Corp. Both boys seem happy about thier career choices. is your hubby Active Navy? Thomas is rumored to be going to Iraq this month ( although he doesnt have his orders yet - he is in radio repair - and said he will be going by naval ship.

Rene- I grew up near New London, in a little town called Uncasville but have been to and by the Academy many time. Such a small farmgirl world!! Yes, my hubby is Active Duty Navy. He is on the USS Pearl Harbor. They just left from Hawaii on Monday. Let me know. That would be cool if they could hook up and meet somehow.

Scott gets out in 8 1/2 months and is transferring over to the Reserves. We simply cannot do active duty anymore. It is literally killing us and we want to be together here in Texas. He will be applying to the police department when he gets back. It is a hard decision and I hope your boys can figure it out for the best.

Rene- I think people know when it is right for them and they make it work. We know active duty is not for us. And yes, I am counting down the days...I take a pic of Charlie everyday day and label it with a number and send it to Scott.

Thank you Rene we do appreciate it and the same goes for your family. One of the reasons we decided he was getting out was he was guaranteed NO deployment in his last year and then they turned around and pulled him. It upheaved our lives again, especially Charlie and I will say, I am a little angry. I know it is part of is his job but we thought we were free and clear, he could have applied to the police academy early and we would have been in Texas together. His command basically lied and then told us "well suck it up you are in the military." I understand that and things happen, but he was like 5th of the list to go and everyone else has some lame excuse while they can't go. Sorry...it is how I feel. Luckily, I did 2 deployments before and this is his second one. I feel bad for Charlie. He is just at the age where he knows everything is going on.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread.
