I spent the last twenty years harrassing my mom about why she goes to junk stores and "rescues" things that to me seemed like trash...well, I guess Im more like my mom that I ever thought I'd be! She taught me well I guess you could say. I LOOOVE thrifting now! I look for every opportunity to go to the two thrift stores we have here in town. I was just curious what kinds of things you look for when thriftig. We just bought our first home about 9 months ago so I'm on a decorating thing. Right now I'm on the lookout for some shelves for Abbys room. Maybe something that I can refinish or paint to match the bedroom. Also, I look for fabric that I could use for crafts projects or curtains or whatever. Anything to help me along i nthe decorating process. Im a sucker for books. I love finding old baby books for Abby and I collects little Golden Books for her also so I alwasy pick up a few of those. I also look for cook books, books about pregnancy and babies ( my sister will be next in line for that : ). I'm looking for a small table to go nest to my husbands recliner in the LR. The shelf I hav ethere now is really lightweight and abby knocks stuff off of it all the time so I need a better shlf or table thats short enough to put a drink on. Other than that I just look throught everything twice and make sure I didn't misss something REALLY good. I get carried away but I ussually weed out the stuff thats not absoulutly needed. So, What do you look for?

Generally, clothes, sheets/blankets, fabric, specific dishes/pots/pans/lids, candles/oil lamps, flower pots/gardening stuff and old kitchen gadgets. And it's not like I don't have enough of these things, I'm just always looking for the next best one to replace the one I "settled" for. What ever I go looking for, it has to have a practical use. I have enough dust collectors and really don't want to add to that collection (I despise dusting!).

Amen to that! I'm not really one to mess with knick knacks and dust collectors either. Unless it is something I can hang on my wall as decoration I really dont get many shelf sitters. I don't have much room for dishes but if I did, that would be another thing I'd collect.

MMM! Teapots, fine pretty tea cups and saucers. Then I look for quilts, costume jewelry that is pretty, anything that looks "antique"- can't beat an antique for $1!! Kitchen things like cookie cutters/rolling pins cute pictures that look old that I can put up in a kid's play room. The occasional _amazing_ piece of furniture.

I discovered thrift stores just a couple of years ago. I am now totally hooked! I look for anything vintage or just what catches my eye. I love linens, kitchen wares, luggage(Samsonite) sewing machines, crystal, books. I like to find the unusual. Most things I find are just a dollar or two. I bought a beautiful vintage crocheted bedspread in perfect condition for $10.00,1930's beautiful set of Samsonite luggage.Recently bought a treadle Singer sewing machine.A 1948-50 Singer electric sewing machine with all of the accessories and instruction books in tip top condition for $45.00! I find great items for better prices at donation thrift stores. I bought a leather LZBoy recliner for 20.00 at a yard sale. It is beautiful in great condition! Gave it to my daughter.

I usually don't have a specified "thing" I'm looking for--because that's when I miss everything else! I do have "stations" that I visit first, second, third, etc...in stores that I frequent. I usually hit the "wood/picture" area, then dishes, then cookware and home stuff, then linens, then clothes.

Ooh! Vintage linens, enamelware, vintage glass candlesticks, fun stuff! Oh, yeah, and every once in a while I actually look for a real necessity!

I don't usually have a specific thing in mind, I just like to run my eyes over the merchandise every now and again, I often find something I know a friend will love, or something for one of my children, but of course, I'm the easiest one to shop for because I love the old battered items best of all. I don't have anything in particular thing that I look for, except for the occasional salt & pepper shaker set to add to the collection. Usually I try to find something to accent a particular room in the house, etc. I also look for old picture frames or anything else useful.
