Cecily- It depends on size and weight. I only charge what my Fed-Ex bill is plus maybe a dollar or two for gas since it is a 20 mile round trip to go get the bottles/crates.

I got some REALLY cool printed half gallons today! Oh my gosh! There are some that are "Jersey Queen" with an adorable jersey cow with a crown, and a green one from "Blueberry Hill" that advertises that their milk is organic! Then one that I am keeping for myself (sorry guys!) that has a clover on it!! How cool!!

Alee: I didn't catch this thread until now. Are the Jersey Queen or Blueberry Hill bottles still available? If so, what size are they and how much? Those sound fun!

Hi Julie-

I am sure I can find some more Jersey Queen and Blueberry Hill bottles. I know for sure there are still some Blueberry Hill ones. They have tiny green writing and I think they are really cool! Oh Yes, and the only ones with printing are the Half Gallons.

Hey Alee,
I would be interested in a couple of the half-gallons with the writing on them. I will be in Moscow on Thursday the 29th and on Monday June 2nd if I could save on shipping, but I know you are busy so if it's easier to ship them let me know

I get my milk in glass bottles, so really do not need any. But, I wanted to share an idea for use. I store my dried beans, cornmeal, etc. in them to keep mice and insects out. They work great because you can stand them side by side in rows and can see what is in them, so labeling is limited.

That's a great idea, Shirley! I hadn't ever thought of that before, but now I am going to do that! Thanks for sharing!

Alee - glad I could pass that along. If you ever get a chance to purchase milk in glass - do it. I drive 30 miles to buy my milk. It's taste is so much better, gets a lot colder and lasts longer than in plastic or in cartons. I have to pay a 10 cent deposit on my bottles but getting the extra use out of them is well worth it. Where can you get good storage for 10 cents?

Shirley- Wow! What a deal! Does the dairy mind you keeping the extra bottles?

No - they don't mind. It is a chain of small convenience stores and I don't keep all of them - just enough to use for the storage I need. I usually buy at least four half gallons a week and try to remember to take the empties with me. It's when I forget them that I end of keeping them. I do wish they would provide quart size (for storage purposes), but they find it not to be an economical size.

Shirley, Great idea, what do you use to "cap" them so insects stay out? JoAnn

I don't know what Shirley does, but when I want to cap one of the milk bottles I have, I use a cardboard milk bottle pog. Though you can buy plastic reuseable ones from dairy supply companies as the cardboard ones wear out pretty fast.

Mine come with a plastic cap, but when it gets misplaced I use plastic wrap secured with a tight rubber band.
