I read the other day that for every 1 lb. you lose it takes 4 lbs. of pressure off of your knees. That's significant and especially meaningful for me because my knees are really acting up.
I weighed in at 165 and then put my scale in the garage because I was making it my God. Not good. Not good at all!
I desire to lose 24 lbs. or better. Whatever my body wants.
I walked a mile this morning and am drinking more water. I bought Dr. Chritiane Northps's book on menopause to better understand my body right now and help me get healthier.
Yes, healthy is much better than skiiny!
Thanks for all the input girls...it helps!

Hello out there! I'm new at this particular kind of farm girl stuff, but I AM a real farm girl- it's just the computer stuff I'm new at. The dieting I'm well acquainted with, though! I've found that writing down the points I've eaten using Weight Watcher's plan WORKS. It makes you accountable, helps you see how much you can still eat for the rest of the day, and it's a great way to keep a record of your (hopeful) success. Any healthy plan will work- it's the sticking to it that really matters. I pray too!!! |

just got back from taking the dog for a walk around the neighborhood..probably about a mile..but since he's a puppy that likes to pull on his walks..he's in training...it becomes quite a work out..my poor legs are achy under the shins..guess they didn't warm up enough before I started walking..ouch! Tonights dinner is WW moussaka..its basically a spaghetti meat sauce poured over layers of eggplant and then sprinkled with a little skim cheese and baked. the sauce I make has 1 lb. ground buffalo then about 2 teaspoons of minced garlic..brown that together..add marinara sauce and about a tablespoon of cinnamon and warm together..then pour over the eggplant in layers.Top with a hand full of skim mozarella. You can actually go to the Weight Watcher website and sign up for their newsletter where you have access to some pretty good recipes. sprinkle with a little

I just got home and it is 7:00pm -- Exhausted. I like the carrying water ideal. So I stopped and splurged on a stainless steel water carrier. I also think I will try to spend my lunch walking by the lake by my work place. Lunch can be eaten at anytime I want so I will probably eat early (at the desk) and then walk. You guys are doing great. I am THINKING HEALTHY!!!

It is cold and icky out there and I have a gazillion chores to do today so I am going to practice exercising my stomach muscles (Clenching and holding while I do stuff) and will try to groove out to some music for a while in addition to cleaning madness. I also will try to keep my feet constantly moving. Hopefully I can burn some calories. I also am going to try and focus on not over eating today-even though the food will be oh so tempting!!

Wow Alee - you are inspiring me
I have drank one big container of water this morning and INTENTIONALLY made two trips to the first floor of the office and used the stairs. Alee I am trying not to overeat as well. Dinner is the toughest for me. I am so exhausted when I get home I tend to shove food in my mouth as comfort. Today I will attempt to go home and go out into the garden to pull weeds instead of turning to food. Stress releaser and a little exercise. Remember Pee Wee's Playhouse? The word of the day is HEALTHY

Alee- Great reminder on theummy muscles! I have a tendency to push mine out. I don't know why, but when I do hold them in, it is very obvious how weak they are. I will do my best to keep mine under comtrol today! Thanks for the great idea.

Mornin' Girls! I wanted to mention that Target has very inexpensive pedometers. It's really incredible and quite a boost to strap one of those on and see how many steps you take in a day. I think "they" say you should shoot for 10,000. You'd be surpised how quickly that adds up! It's a great motivator. BTW, Anyone without a partner? I'm looking for one!

Is Food the Right Answer? By Linda Spangle, RN, MA
The words slip out so easily. 'If I eat something, maybe I'll feel Better.' When you're tired, stressed or physically ill, food is Often the first thing that comes to mind. It provides an appealing Cure for everything from a cold or the flu to exhaustion after a Long day.
If you're tired because your body is needing fuel, eating probably Will make you feel better. But having an energy drop doesn't always Mean it's time to eat. Make sure that you can recognize the Difference between your fuel needs and wanting an emotional fix.
Hunger or desire to eat?
Whenever you start thinking about food, take a minute to figure out Whether you're having a physical need or an emotional one. Before You put the first bite in your mouth, ask yourself, 'Is this hunger Or a desire to eat?'
If you decide you are truly hungry, give your body some fuel. But If you're having a desire to eat, catch yourself on the spot and Ask, 'What's going on here? What's making me want to eat right Now?' Then consider how you could take care of your real needs Instead of appeasing them with food.
If you need to calm down or de-stress, try doing a few deep Breathing exercises instead of eating. Give your eyes a rest from The computer or take a break from the task you're working on.
Remember that food doesn't usually fix a tired body. So if you Recognize that you need rest, not food, go to bed, take a nap or Just close your eyes and give them a break for a few minutes. Sip a Cup of hot tea or a diet soda and allow your body to relax. Eventually, you'll discover lots of ways to build your energy Without reaching for food.
Other ways to perk up
Instead of immediately reaching toward food when you feel tired or Down, do something else first and see if it takes care of the problem.
* Wait ten minutes When you get a food craving, buy yourself some time by waiting ten Minutes before you eat anything. During that time, do something Positive such as read to your child or offer encouragement to a Troubled friend. After ten minutes, see if you still need to eat or If your food thoughts have faded.
* Move your body Instead of heading for your recliner after an exhausting day, go For a brief walk or do something else that gets you moving. Physical activity will usually revive you better than lying on the Couch with chips and a soda.
* Get a drink of water Being dehydrated can add to your fatigue or even make you think You're hungry. Drink a large glass of water, then wait 30 minutes. You may be surprised at your renewed energy level.
* Get some rest Put your feet up, take a nap (a lost art) or take time for a few Minutes of meditation or stretching. Start going to bed earlier. Force yourself to rest when you need it.
* Distract yourself Do something that will take your mind off how you feel. Mentally Escape with a book or a shopping trip. When you keep busy, you may Find your tiredness lifts without a food fix. Be sure you choose a Diversion that fills your mind, not empties it. Watching TV or Playing computer games will often make you feel dull rather than Revived.

That's a great article! I find that if I distract my self long enough my body will SCREAM for food when it really needs it. Staying busy is the key for me- at least until I break the over eating habit. Also try to eat whole grains instead of white. The fiber will fill you up and give you more nutrition besides.
I have read and heard on TV health shows that sometimes our great hunger comes from eating foods with little to no nutritional value. You can be morbidly obese and still be malnourished! When it all comes down to it- our bodies are very smart about what they need. But we have created so many "alternatives" to what we should eat that our poor bodies are confused. They know that in nature- something sweet and starchy should be a whole grain- for us something sweet and starchy means CAKE! COOKIES! WHITE BREAD! PASTA!! Yum! Oh-- I mean uh... But I think we can all still have that if we just go whole grain and keep moderation in mind. Anyone know if there is whole wheat cake flour?

I, too find that if I'm busy, I'm not thinking about food. On Saturday, I cleaned and rearranged so much that by 9:00, I still hadn't had anything to eat and it dawned on me when I was in Target with my mom that I was hungry! I ate a Lean Cuisine when I got home because I just wanted something light.
This a.m, I had my low fat Stonyfield Farm organic smoothie, and 2 cups of black coffee. For lunch, I'm eating 2 chicken enchilada's I made last night with 2% cheese. Yum!!! It's too chilly to walk today, so I think I will tonight when I get home and can get on some better clothes. Oh, and I am TRYING to drink this bottle of water :)

Oh, I was forgetting to check in here. Some good motivating stuff! Today so far I've had a bowl of cereal with 2% milk and banana, about 4 cups of coffee so far. For lunch I had a couple of slices of cheddar cheese with a few crackers and will have another slice later on this afternoon for energy. I'm sipping on a diet 7 up, I'll have to start doing better with water but it's not my favorite. For supper I'll have a nice garden salad, a little popcorn while watching American Idol, and then probably a bit of peanut butter before bedtime. As I have diabetes the doctor said it's good to have a lite snack before bed.
I haven't weighed yet this week, but I feel like I might have lost a bit. A lot of mornings I'll eat oatmeal with cinnamon. It's filling and I've heard that it naturally helps lower blood sugar levels.

For breakfast I had a smoothie made with yogurt, mango, banana and strawberries. For lunch, I ate at the Farmer's Market and had steamed cabbage, roasted fennel, a lentil samosa and, I hate to admit it, 2 fried oysters. Because they jumped on my plate. Water has been my drink of choice today, and for dinner tonight, I am making a healthy version of Shepherd's Pie (grass-fed beef, onions, and potatoes mashed with their cooking water instead of milk, no added butter and topped with low-fat cheese), with broccoli and a salad as sides. Yum. Of course, it is not low calorie, so I will just have small portions of the pie and lots of salad. :)

This am...stoneyfield farm low fat vanilla yogurt, and black coffee...but going back right now for my second cup. Last night for dinner, I had a child's portion of spaghetti with marinara while eating with our family in from Georgia. Not too bad--and for lunch yesterday, I had another lean cuisine, so I could do a "little" more carb I suppose!
Our family is still in town today, so today's lunch is going to be a cup of soup and half a sandwich from our favorite little local deli, and then dinner tonight at the wonderful restaurant where Justin works. I'm planning on seafood--maybe shrimp and grits, but more likely the salmon :) At least this restaurant has "real people" sized portions.

okay, found you guys over here! i saw that someone asked about leslie sansone......she make these "walk away the weight" tapes. i really like them.....you can do it in your home, don't need a lot of space, only 4 easy "steps".......(unlike the dance away the weight tape that i got and discovered you need to be a professional choreographer to do it!!) and they go fast, at least i think so....the 1 mile only takes 18 minutes to do. BRIDGET....i saw that you have a 3 mile one, i only have the 1 and 2---which were together, i have not seen a 3 mile tape, where did you get it??? |
