A business owner in a tourist town down the road from us asked to try some of my food items for her gift shop. We are licensed and insured so I had no problem supplying her if she wanted some. Well it seems there is a large hotel that wants some items for gift baskets for their guest. They liked my Orange/Rosemary Quick Bread and are willing to commit to 200 bags a week for the next 24 months! Each bag makes one large loaf! We meet tomorrow at 3:00pm to look at pricing and see if we can work out an agreement. On top of that the business owner would like to carry all of my dip & tea mixes. Been wanting to quit my day job. May happen in the next year or so.........BUT 200 a week -- The hubby is gonna be real busy keepin' up with the house work

OH MY GOODNESS!! The deal went through! By the end of May she will be carrying my complete line of stuff and I got the pricing I wanted! Now I am trying to figure out how to do it all..... I am taking a DEEP BREATH and getting my lists together ( I live by list by the way . Wish me lots of luck because I am going to need it.

Thanks everyone. It just all seems to be happening pretty quick. First I got the job for About.com, writing about small farms and now this. Not that I'm complaining it is just a bit overwhelming. I can't afford to stay home full time until towards the end of summer maybe early fall. That means I get to work 3 jobs ( not forgetting the farm chores and house)........But this too shall pass and it is only for a short time. I learned a long time ago you may have to sacrifice some to get to your dream

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. Kristine- I am breathing very deeply and doing a lot of scheduling!

The last time we had people wanting to sell our stuff I RAN TO THE WOODS . We had set up at the Franklin TN Farmes Market ( HI NASHBABE!! and yes I would love for you to look at some of the items sometime. ) and some stores from Nashville and Franklin wanted our stuff and this was only the second week of ever selling anything. I actually said thank you but no thank you. Now I realize it had more to do with a) fear of the unkown along with a little bit of b) do I deserve for this to happen so quickly. I stepped away and haven't even done farmers markets for the last couple of years. Though we have done festivals in the area and we always did great.

This new deal happened by "accident". I was in gift shop with my oldest daughter and we were admiring some of the items they sold. The owner said they do gift baskets. I thanked her but replied that I make my own baskets. As she later told her husband she had to "PULL the information" from me becuse I wasn't trying to sell her anything. This was a week and a half ago.

I now have to believe that this is suppose to me what I am doing. It is just happening so easily that it is kind of scary - but in a good way Ok off to work

Hi Tamara, I would think I should have actually met you as I had a full time spot at the FFM last year. This year I'm trading off with someone. Guess I wasn't paying attention, darnit... :-)

Nashbabe - we missed each other by a year. My last summer was two summers ago.. . We were moving onto the farm last year and missed the markets all together. Everyone was so neat to work with.

Tamara, congrats!!! You can TOTALLY do this. I have seen lots of people go from making small amounts of something to much larger amounts and you know what? Once you get your rhythm figured out, i bet you can do those in no time. Seriously. I've been maknig b& b products for 10 years. I can now make 500 lip balms in the same amount of time it use to take me to make 25 or 50. You figure out your workspace, storage, and workflow - that is SO important! I kind of put that off for a long time and it made for much more work in the long run. congrats on everything falling into place, it's beautiful to see!
