Good Grief! I totally let the stressies get to me! On Saturday the kids and I decided to make cake and cupcakes and have a "Happy Birthday to Someone!" party. So we made these wonderful cakes, frosted them and added colored sprinkles. We added candles, lit them and blew them out making wishes (out loud as is our tradition) VERY fun! Saturday I was pretty good and kept my will-power in check. Yesterday was just plain rough. Loads of emotions; up and down and up and down. There was that yummy cake calling me...Joooooollllleeeeeeaaaaaaahhhh!!!! come heeerrreeee! UGH! So I nibbled at this thing all day long. nibble here bite there until I finally stopped and took a nice look at the cake and the thing was half eaten! Mind you, I didn't bother with a plate or a fork! I just kept a knife handy and dug in. If it wasn't so pathetically funny, I'd be completely heart-broken and grossed out. It was such a cliche thing to do, but there it is! crack me up! Oh, the stressies of life!! Farmgirls, thanks again for being with me. I feel you all so near and so so dear! Big chocolate smiles to you all! ~julia

Julia - One of my friends always said "remember that stressed spelled backwards is desserts." :o)
I hope that you have a wonderful week full of desserts not stressed.

Chocolate IS good for you, and believe me, I've done the same thing. I never thought of a Happy Birthday to Someone cake though, that's a great idea! WE all do the best we can in life and sometimes we just need the chocolate....Karin

OK, the stressed spelled backwards is desserts made me spit out my coffee onto the computer screen! That is so the hooting laugh I needed today! ahhhhhh feeling the spirit coming back...I swear, the more I withdraw, the harder it all seems to be.. the more open I am putting myself out there, the better I feel!
I have a mountain of laundry to do today. Maybe I'll just sit on top of it eating the rest of the cake and hope it just waltzes itself right on over to the washing machine!!
Cheers...oh, had some cake for breakie already! I'm pathetic! ~julia

That's so funny! I've done it myself, but never with chocolate cake. DH finishes anything chocolate before I can even have seconds! I think he was a woman in another life or maybe he's just in touch with his feminine chocoholic side ;)

My mother used to say she would eat "just a sliver" of a cake and next thing she knew, it was all gone and she'd have to bake another. Maybe that's why she was very plump when I was a kid. I can sliver something into oblivion myself, expecially if it's chocolate. I have two birthdays this week, son will be 34 tomorrow and grandson 18 on Wednesday. Think they're coming from Utah this weekend, so will have to back them a cake or two. If you did the math, grandson belongs to my daughter, but he's living with my son and that's a very good choice. Carrot cake and chocolate blackout might be the choices. Both "best" recipes are in a special edition Cook's Illustrated magazine. So nice to see you posting again, Julia!

Move over Frannie, I will help you with that last half of the cake. At this point, it's our farmgirl duty to help Julie get rid of the evidence!
And, Julie? You enjoy that cake; chocolate is exactly what you needed! Y'know, strength for folding all that clean laundry, right?

Julia - I laughed so hard. Because I have done it before too. You obviously don't know that the age old truth --- if you don't use a plate the calories don't count .
So finish up the rest of the cake using your knife and your good to go!
I think I need a Happy Birthday to Someone Day too

Julia,
Go girl! Our bodies know how to tell us what we need at the moment (or all day)LOL Chocolate triggers the release of seratonin so it's only natural that you are craving it.
Just had to paste this tidbit in about the effects of chocolate:
Chocolate is full of mood-enhancing chemicals. To start with, it is loaded with sugar, which is a carbohydrate and triggers the release of seratonin. Chocolate also contains fat, which in itself provides a feeling of satisfaction since it answers the urge for calories. Chocolate is also said to have the same mood-enhancing chemical that is found in marijuana, although in much smaller quantities.
To test the theory that chocolate enhances mood, a study was conducted at the University of Pennsylvania. Students who felt the urge to eat chocolate were given either:
milk chocolate, white chocolate (which contains no cocoa, just cocoa butter and flavoring); or pills containing stimulants found in chocolate. The findings were predictable .... The pill didn't do the trick, but both the white and milk chocolates did satisfy the students. The results suggest that it is not some secret chemical ingredient in chocolate that provides the euphoria, but the sensory experience ... the taste, the smoothness and the aroma. Perhaps the mood-enhancing chemicals are just the "icing on the cake."
And furthermore...chocolate is just plain good soul feeding food.

Julia!
That is so funny! I have done things like that with cake or banana bread before! And I love the things about desserts and stressed! ROFL! I will have to remember that one! I need my desserts to reverse my stressed state! The opposites will nullify each other! LOL
