I LOVE TO READ .. and i thought it would be fun if we all shared 'passages' ... thoughts ... ideas ... poetry ... etc. etc. ... from books that we are reading.
I picked up GIFTS from NATURE by Matthew Mead just before dozing off to sleep last night. It's a book with Ideas and Projects for Every Season. Of course, i turned directly to SPRING ...
it reminds us to make time for spring-time WALKS. and i loved this line: "It is a time when a simple stroll can draw you close to the rebirth of nature."
share some passages of YOUR books with us. (even a 'one-liner' would be nice.)

FERNS: Ferns are actually very primitive plants, some of the oldest remaining species on earth. One your spring-time walk, take a few early cuttings to force in glass bottles at home. Watch th eleaves stretch open into lush and beautiful fronds.

ohhhhhhh .. and 'serenedity' .. here's a reminder (like cathy cobblestone tells us on her blogsite) ... Gather green velvety moss to create a beutiful token of spring. Fill an urn with a layer of stones, then potting soil, and plas moss on top. Mist daily.

Spring can often be 'smelled' as much as seen. The sun releases the fragrances of the natural wold coming to life.
What are some of YOUR favorite springtime aromas?
new mown grass
delicate perfume of violets
fresh earth, as the snow melts,
pne-needle carpets
woodland moss
what would YOU add to this list?
there are wonderful 'farm' smells .. tell us about some you love.

VIOLET WATER AND GRASS WATER
... HOW CLEVER .. i never thought to make 'grass water' .. here's the recipe:
3 cups distilled water
2 cups grass clippings (from an untreated lawn)
2 cups vodka .. WE LIVE IN A 'DRY' COUNT!
3 drops of grass essentia loil (never heard of this .. but gonna' track it down!)
Brin the water to a boil and pour over the grass clippings. cover and let stand until fully cooled.
Strain the liquid, discarding the blossoms or grass, and add the vodka and essential oil. Decant into glass bottles.
i can hardly wait to see what this smells like ..hopefully NOT VODKA. i wonder if ther is a substitute.

Hhhmmmm, grass water, how very farmgirl! I have never heard of grass essential oil either!
I wanted to add to your springtime smells list. . . plain ol' DIRT! We just turned over our tiny garden patch. I won't be able to plant until after our stay in Hawaii, but we needed to do something! Really, you can't smell dirt here in the winter, it's frozen. Smells a bit of mulch and weeds too, got rid of those nastys. My daughter, 4 years old, plopped her little keister right in the dirt and began to build "sand castles" with a look of pure joy. A farmgirl in the making!

We were putting up fencing today and have had a lot of rain lately. You could smell the dirt and worms and it smelled so good, I wanted to go fishing!
