I was born and raised in a small town in central Kentucky--Greensburg. I live about 10 miles from where I was born. When I was 5 we moved from the farm into town (about 4 miles). When I was 8 my parents built a new house the next street over. When I married I moved to my husband's families farm--5 miles. In a year we bought his grandmother's farm and moved 1 1/2 miles to it. Been here ever since (38 years). Hope I don't have to move again--too much stuff!!!!!!!!! Moving might be a good way to get rid of some unneeded, unnecessary stuff--but won't you need it later? That's always been my experience when I have thrown or given away anything!!! Green County has a population of about 11,500 with about 2,500 of those being in the town of Greensburg. We live on the far southern edge of the county. It takes about 15 minutes for us to drive into the town. Our town boasts of having the oldest courthouse west of the Allegheny Mountains. It is located in the center of town, and is used for all types of community and family events. Our town, like many other small towns, has lost most of its stores (to Wal-Mart in the next town). We have mostly banks, gas stations, drug stores, flower shops, beauty shops, a Dollar General Store, 1 hardware store, and a few other small businesses. It is a nice quiet place to live. We have a good school system, with many new school buildings, and another one on the way. We can drive 1-2 hours to go shopping in a large city--Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, Nashville. I can't imagine living anywhere else!!!!!!! |

I have lived in IL all of my life. I made up for it though by traveling a lot. My husband was from Tehran, Iran. He left there when he was 15 and moved to Woodstock, NY in 1975! How's that for a change of scenery? Anyway, he went to high school and college in NY and then graduate school in Ann Arbor, MI. Then back to NY. Eventually he made his way to IL to work at the same national lab as I did. (He's a physicist and I was a secretary). He finally calls IL "home" after living here for 10 years.

I'm so glad I started this thread. It is interesting to see that there are so many farmgirls from the east coast, MN, TX, CA, FL, WY, and I have yet to hear from NE, SD, ND, KS, OR (one of my fav places) and my own little town of Pasco.
I'm happy also to see that so many of you have had those long marriages we all dream about when walking down the aisle. Proud to learn of adopted kids and adoptees.
Kate, isn't Waverly MN the "Little House on the Prairie" town?
My first husband emigrated from Cardiff Wales. His dad was born in Cardiff and his mum in Swansea. I learned a lot from them.
Keep'em coming farmgirls. I am having the time of my life and a geography lesson to boot! |

I was born and raised in Russell Springs, KY. I lived there until I moved to Mississippi almost 8 years ago. I'm loving it down here, but I do miss my grandbaby, sisters, mom and daughter. We live in anhistorical town with antabellum homes and tree lined brick streets. People here take so much pride in their homes and gardens, and use them frequently for tea and garden parties. The pace is alot slower here, but that just gives us more time to gossipsocialize, Lord forgive us. I love to sew, garden, paint, decorate, birdwatch, make candles and soap. Also, church is a big part of our livesand I try to balance my life with a cookie in each hand.

I was born in Richmond, KY, lived the first few years of my life in Danville, KY. Then moved back to Richmond for about 6 mos. then on to Waco, KY where I've lived in 4 different houses on the same road. When I moved out of my parent's house I did live in Richmond again for about 7 years before I married and moved to Stockholm, Sweden for a while. I moved back to Richmond again and lived there 4 more years before my husband and I moved back to Waco, KY (again on the same road). Most all of my family are from the Waco/Richmond area so it feels like home to me.

I was born in Seattle, WA, and we moved to Rogue River, OR near my fifth birthday. We went to Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach, Florida for about a year, when I was in the third grade. Then we went to Bellingham, WA for a few months, then back to Southern Oregon. I moved to Portland, OR when I was 19-30. I moved back to Seattle/Des Moines, WA in 2006, where I met DH. We lived in Bonney Lake, WA for a year and a half. THree months after our son was born, we moved to Moyie Springs/Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Kathie, Sherone is right. It is Garndner Village and I love it. It is in West Jordan. That is where I grew up. The witch festival is the best. My favorite store there just closed, but the lady who ran it is going on line. It is a baby store. It's called Elsa Belle. I bought hat for my daughter there, and everyone compliments her on it. That is pretty cool you were able to go there!
Sherone, do you ever do to the Mountain Man Rendevouz in Ft. Bridger? I went once and loved it. There is a family that lives in our neighborhood that goes every year. I'm still trying to talk my husband into going this next fall.

It's great to see where everyone is from, and from all over I see. I was born and raised in OK- moved alot before the age of 16. Parents settled in a town in OK for my highschool years and then I moved to TX - met my DH and we moved to CA and I lived there the early years of my adult life and raised our girls then for their highschool years moved to a small TX town. That is where we are now. ;)

I was born and raised in Rockford, MI, but spread my wings for college and ventured to Tulsa, OK. Loved it there, but after graduation and working on a film that was filmed in Tulsa, I moved to Los Angeles, CA where several friends were. After a couple years in the big city, I moved back to Rockford, MI. Our house is on the market though, and an opportunity in Kentucky is calling my husband's name. Glad to know that there will be some instant farmgirl friends if we venture that way!!!! Ann |

| Hi, this is my first post ever on any kind of forum! I live in Brinnon, Washington on the Hood Canal, where it rains a lot. I was raised in Olympia, Washington, went to college in Bellingham, Washington, and my mom's family has its roots in the Palouse, near where Mary Jane lives. My great uncle still lives on the homestead where my grandfather was raised! Maybe that's where I got the farmgirl's heart. Last fall, a friend lent my Mary Janes Lifebook, etc. to read because she thought I was like Mary Jane. She was so right, and now I find out I am not all that weird at all. There are lots of people like me. Wow! |

I grew up in metro Atlanta, Georgia. Lived in the same house the whole time I was growing up. My grandparents lived up the red clay dirt road from us. My Aunt and Uncle a little further up the road. Everyone knew everybody and as they say we all sprung from the same branch. You were related to everyone around. I got married 33 years ago and still live in Georgia about 2 and 1/2 hours from Atlanta now. My 84 year old mother and my 4 brothers and 2 sisters still live in metro Atlanta. And all their families. Except now where we lived then, looks like a extention of Atlanta.
You can never have enough friends. Please come and sit a spell with me at Life on a Southern Farm http://georgiafarmwoman.blogspot.com |

Hi Betty! Pasco, Washington isn't so far from me: Yakima!
I was born in Colorado, raised in Utah and Colorado until my teens, when we moved to Washington. I LOVE it here, always have. I like the West side, with the salt water and trees, but I'm in the desert now, where there's lots of sunshine and horses *U*

I have always been in Texas...I was born in a small small small town named Naples...the hospital that I was born in was a vet clinic 2 years later! I then migrated to Pittsburg, which is only small-small, and was raised there. I then met my hubby and moved to Gilmer, which is just small...and I am as happy as a bug in a rug!

Samantha, I have always wanted to go to Texas. It's one of a handfull of states I haven't been in. There seems to be a variety of landscapes there. I have a dear friend who lives in Austin, so I may make it one day. Also the HUGE quilt show in Houston would be a lot of fun. |

Hi Mary Jane, I lived in New York for two years and worked at the Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. The ex and I lived in Liverpool. His parents emigrated from Wales in 1947, so he was basically born here. |

| I was born in Phoenix, AZ and then my family made a huge move to Glendale, AZ (basically a suburb of Phoenix, so my remark was a little sarcastic there). I went to school at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, where I met my husband. We are in Payson, AZ now, but who knows for how long, since we are waiting to hear back from some job opportunities my husband has applied for. |
