SIGN UP IS FULL Let the sewing begin!!

Farmgirl bboopster-Betty Jo and I have been talking about a swap for our own doll and then making and swapping 6 outfits.

A universal size is 18 inch child doll. I am thinking American Girl size. The pattern books have many clothes patterns for American Girl or any 18 inch dolls.

We'd like to start with swapping prairie type dress, and if you want to add pinafore or apron and possibly bloomers (that is up to you). For the less experienced sewers a simple dress would be fine.

The Prairie-old fashioned (everyday or dressy) dresses are to be sent in to me by June 10th.

You'll get back 5 different ones PLUS one of your own.

Betty Jo has also suggested that anyone can make their own dolly or outfit and post a pic here for us to see. If you didn't join to make 6 outfits, then feel free to show us what you have made for your dolly. That will be our Fashion Show!

CUT OFF is 6 participants!
Participants so far are

1. bboopster-betty jo
2. yarnmamma-Linda
3. tziporra--Robin
4. smoothiejuice--Jess
5. Carmen
6. SheilaC-Sheila

oops....most patterns have Raggedy Ann in 15 inch. or much larger. We'll decide for sure after some feedback. :-)

I think just about any 18 inch little girl doll would work.

It's your swap. Let's have fun yet still consider beginner sewers.

I have an American Girl doll I'd be willing to send to a new home. She has streaked blonde hair and brown eyes. Good shape except her hair is cut weird..would be fine pulled back, but is longer in the front than the back. Heck, maybe she came that way. I know nothing about the dolls other than they are pricey. Think I have a couple vintage dolls that size too. I collect Toni dolls, my antique baby and have some porcelain babies that will contine to live here, the rest can go live elsewhere. Any adoptive mommies out there for these orphans?

Thanks Ronna. Good idea. Anyone could use whatever doll they want to use.
I have an American Girl knock-off and plan to keep her but there's nothing as warm and cuddly as a homemade cloth doll. I sleep with at least one, sometimes 4 of them. LOL
Thanks for sharing your dollies.

I want to do the doll clothes swap!!!!

I have an 18" doll that wears American Girl clothes, even though she is MUCH cooler than an American girl doll. And I have lots of patterns for that doll size, so sign me up!!!!

Best,

Robin

Other Dolls and Doll Accessories

Vogue offers a pattern for "Olivia," an 18" cloth doll with an iron-on face. The doll will fit most of the patterns mentioned above for 18" dolls. The pattern for Olivia is $11.95 (#7007). Olivia has two friends who can also be made from Vogue patterns, Jeremiah and Sarah.

A suite of bedroom furniture is available for the 18" dolls as well (#9352--$9.95) and a doll trunk, too (#9688). The doll trunk is large enough to fit your 18" doll plus outfits and accessories. It stands 21" tall!

Here are some patterns that I liked...tho they look difficult, I'll make mine simpler...
I especially like the bloomers and slip. The dresses are old fashioned but not the long Prairie style.

Hello Farmgirls, the silent hostess has entered the thread. Sorry I was busy shipping a son off to Korea for 1-2 year deployment.

When Linda wrote me about this swap (months ago) I was very excited as I have not made a doll or clothing in at least 14 years. With a grand-baby on the way and my life headed in the direction of being able to use my studio again. WaLa! Linda developed this thread and here we go!!!

I can assure you mine will be of the simplest dress to get start and as we go I hope my sewing abilities will return. Never really had any so that would be a miracle! I have found several books at the local library on making Doll clothes. My FAVORITE so far is "Two-Hour Doll Clothes" by Anita Louise Crane. The patterns are beautiful and for any level of sewing. I'm not sure about the 2 hour thing. You know Rachel Ray quotes "30 Minute Meal" but I have yet to finish on in 30 minutes. But anyway lets have fun with this.

For anyone not sure about being able to join the swap because of time restraints or other reasons. Not to worry. How about making your special doll or stuffed animals a new outfit and let us all see it. This thread was started because of the love of doll and how so many of us have been making or talking about making one.

I can't wait for the dolly fashion show. We may get more hits then VS does for theirs!

what does everyone think.....
I am thinking that 5 will be enough. Let's give it only a couple more days and if we don't another another joiner...then we'll end the signups.
I'm looking for fabric now.
I read from a designer that when the everyday prairie dresses are made then we should use a very small print so it will look authentic.
I believe the dressy ones were made with more solid colors. I love lace and ribbons!
Does anyone have or seen a bonnet pattern? If not then I will try to design one and share it.
