Tonight is the first night I've spent alone, meaning without Seamus, in this old farm house since I moved here ten years ago. Not ONE NIGHT here without her until tonight. Yesterday, I received a call from my dad telling me that my grandmother had passed away - she fell into a coma on Friday and passed away Sunday. She was so much fun and so very kind and interesting - always ready with a papaya or a game of cards. This morning, I put down my oldest and best dog, Seamus. She is/was a golden retriever with an amazing capacity for empathy - and patience enough to let a toddler stick his fingers up her nose. Massive organ failure - she wasn't sick, the vet said it looks more like a poisioning. I don't really care what it was. It's too quiet here. No grandmother in the back of my mind, no dog under my feet. My husband is out of town on business, my oldest is with my parents, and my little one is asleep. Darn if I even know what to do. It's just one of those days - wild in it's own almost surreal way, I guess. We all have them, and it's days like this one that make me refer back to the sayings and admonitions I grew up with, "Out of emotion and into motion," and, "This, too, shall pass."

This is my grandma and me - it's so fuzzy - it's the only one I have on the computer - this is in 2006. She's lovely and fun and kind...

...and this is Seamus; the Good Dog...

XOXO, Libbie

Libbie, you've been through a lot those past days. I am sorry for the loses of your GrandMa and of Seamus. Wrap yourself into a quilt and if you can, talk to them, pray for them, spend some time with yourself in a quiet way.
A big hug to you,
corinne

Oh Libbie. I am so sorry to hear about your Grandma passing. I still miss mine so much and she has been gone 16 years now. But..it does get a little easier and the wonderful memories make it easier.
I feel so bad about Seamus too! I am glad I got to meet her. She was a wonderful dog. If you need to hang out just let me now!!!

Libbie,

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother's passing. I lost both of mine within a few years several years ago and I miss them terribly. The memories of the love and time you had together will comfort you some. That's a loving photo you shared with us.

Also sorry to hear about Seamus. She looks so sweet in that photo. I have a golden that's 11 and she's a big part of our family. Please know that I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers and sending a big hug from Kentucky.

Libbie...what can I say except that I am sending you peaceful thoughts. It must be beyond hard for you, right now. I can't imagine dealing with BOTH of those things at once, but we all must go through our trials, I suppose....I'm just sorry you're having to do it all alone.

Thinking of your gran and Seamus, now renewed.

Libbie I am so sorry to hear of your double loss. My husband went through the same thing at the end of February. First his mother (90 years old) died and the following Friday his much loved dog Lady (golden retriever/spaniel) died at the age of 13. It's a lot to absorb but time does heal and after a time it doesn't hurt so bad and happy memories fill the void. JoAnn

Libbie, I'm so sorry. Losing two loved ones at once is a rough blow. I'm sure that neither would want you to be sad and I know how hard it is to just let go of the ones that we have lost. This too shall pass, is a good saying and is true but you are hurting now and sad. Big farmgirl hugs and wishing you solace and peace

Libbie, I am so very sorry for your losses. I've found myself telling myself "this too shall pass" quite a bit over the past year or so; it's wonderful that you have those thoughts and words to help you through this time.

Oh Libbie, I am so sorry. To lose two loved ones so close together is awful. You have such a great perspective on this though. I think these times make us hold tighter to those we love and count the blessings we have. Makes me think of that wonderful Steven Curtis Chapman song, "Cinderella" as he talks about dancing with his daughter knowing all too soon she will grow up (or as the song says, "the clock will strike midnight"). I heard an interview with him about that song and he said it is really for all relationships . . . we need to hold tight to those we love while we have them because the days are truly numbered.

God's blessings to you and your family during this time of loss and change.

Hugs & blessings,

Brenda

Libby,
Gee I ask the other day, WHERE IS LIBBY, then here you are BUT with not such good news. Sorry to hear all this. If I lived closer I would make you a pie and bring it over,of course right after I left you would probably have to throw it out, but its the thought that counts. I still miss my Grandma, she raised me, and I miss her everyday. You know I was only 19 when I lost her, can't believe it was that long ago. How are those sweet little boys of yours? We haven't seen a picture in along time.

Thank you so much - you are so very kind - all of you. I wanted to share an article that was published today in the "Honolulu Advertiser" (the newspaper) about my grandmother. Here's the link: http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/200804170100/SPORTS15/804170365 My Dad is "Jim, Jr." - just so you know where I fit into all of this.

She was so wonderful.
