I don't have cable but I did look on the website. It was a good kick in the butt to stop buying disposables for a break from the cloth diapers. Cloth all the way now.

Yes and I am really REALLY really re-thinking how we do things here in my household. I was shocked to learn that only 17% of the world's land is still untouched...17%!!!!!! What are we doing???
I am recording it, so I will get back to ya'll tomorrow on my experience.

Ok,,,,the part about how many animals we eat a piece has made me...well...queasy!!!
I am really shocked that my body, my personal body, consumes all of that...the food alone is overwhelming!!!!

Something like each person eats 6 whole pigs in a lifetime, 7 cows and a whole lotta chickens and eggs!!!
Seriously, after that show, I am gonna need a drink and I will be eco-friendly- I am drinking straight out of the container!!!! And with the average person consuming 13,248 beers and 942 bottles of wine, I need to catch up.

oh my! We only eat meat one meal a month. we eat vegan and mostly raw for the rest of our meals.

Well, compared to the average, I am well below in my consumption, so I think with all our friendly farmgirls here, I think we are doing a lot better than average- I guess we are above average on not consuming.

I am sure we are.. I was mentioning to a friend that since we went vegan and mostly raw our garbarge has been cut in half. I was shocked when we took out our garbage and we were looking for garbage to fill it..

Speaking of garbage, how many bags do you have per week? I am ashamed to say we often have three whole garbage bags and will work this month on cutting back. We are required to recycle our glass, cardboard, milk jugs, etc. so that is good and we always have one full bin of recycling, if not two. But three bags of garbage (the 13 gallon kitchen size) seems like too much for a family of four!

I think it was a good show overall to get people thinking, but it did make me a bit frustrated that they didn't offer _solutions_ to the problems. I was also frustrated because they manipulated the math a bit to make it seem as bad as possibly could be. For example- they said that every orange traveled X amount of oranges to get to out table and for all the oranges we are going to eat it is the miles to the moon and back 50x. I'm sorry but the orange companies don't ship the oranges one at a time. They ship them by the bushel and pallets of bushels go on each truck. So for each 50 oranges I buy they have traveled the X amount of miles.
Things like that frustrate me because it shocks the people who are already concerned and "proves the point" of the people who believe that environmentalists are all blowing things out of proportion.
That being said- It still had tons of great information and was a good watch.

I agree. I too wish they had a lot more suggestions or showing people who are being really eco-friendly to show how easy it can be. They overwhelmed us with the results of our behavior, but now what. What changes can we make, however little, to make a difference?
The distance thing bothered me too. Take your orange example. For millions of people that orange only travels from one side of their county to the other. For areas, like So Cal, where there is a lot of crops are produced the travel time is much less, but that didn't seem to be factored in.
All in all it was good info and I will be even more careful about what I buy and what we do with it when it's used up.

Yes, I wish there were more suggestions but the visuals were enough to convince me that something has to be done.
