Hello! A fellow Utah gal and I would like to get involved in or start a chapter...is anyone currently in a Utah chapter? Or interested in starting/joining one?

You are more than welcome to join with us (Rural Utah farmgirls) if you don't find someone closer. We are down in Manti though...so it would be a drive. For sure lets try to get together some this summer though. Sunshine is in Herriman, so she is close to you..and I know there are a couple others up near you...don't know about chapters though.

How often do you girls meet? I wouldn't mind driving a little distance if it wasn't super-often. Maybe I could incorporate a trip to Moab at the same time! :) Well maybe I will contact Sunshine and see if anyone is interested in forming a group a bit farther North than yours....

I am the "other gal". Thanks for posting Miss Whit! I am ready to start a group or join with anyone who would like to have some farmgirl fun.

I have printed the merit requirements and yes there are things that can be done alone, but the whole "Each Other" is what we need.

I like to do everything and can do many of the tasks. I would like to share my knowledge and learn some new things from others.

I thought of monthly get together and have some projects we can do at my house. I make soap, have goats and love to sew. I have experience with cows, chickens, gardening and I am a former (human) midwife.

I really want to learn to knit, master crochet, make cheese to name a few... we are coming up on some warmer weather and travel will be much easier.

Maybe we could do a round robin? Meet at a different farmgirl's locale and she would "lead" in something...just a thought. What do you all think?

We tend to meet when we have something we want to do together..more often for sure after school lets out for summer (we have traditional school schedule down here) and for sure we can do cheesemaking!!! Kate is quite a knitter and much more patient as a teacher than I am so I know we can do knitting too. Sunshine would be your master crocheter...I can crochet..but she is REALLY good. Anyway...I agree..we could meet at different places and make a day of it now and then..maybe even just meet up somewhere in the semi-middle...like Provo...for lunch and a visit sometime this spring. My house is always open for a meeting for sure. We had our last one at Cherrals and the time before that at Libbies (she is an hour south of us..there are three of us in Manti)
Laura..I am so glad you chimed in..it was you I was trying to think of up there. There might be another that dosn't post very often too. But do contact Sunshine too!!

Thank you Jenny for responding.

It is Stephanie (Utahprairie)who lives up this way, but is in a busy "season" in her life. I do hope she will take some time for fun!

Manti is not that far from here. I will contact Sunshine who lives close to me too.

School is almost out, let's think about a date and some projects we can do together. I want to capture our short season and make the most of it before I return to the hermit phase. lol

Hi all...I want to apoligize to everyone for not having time to be more involved. I am working full time and going to school (police academy) at night. In my spare time (ha ha), I have a passle of critters and a family to care for. I will be graduating in August and my intentions are to be more involved with the Northern Utah members. I check in whenever I can and I hope to stay "in the loop"...thanks to everyone-you INSPIRE me!

Oh Steph it is so good to hear all is well with you. We all have busy seasons and I understand. When you are done with school, it will be great to get together.
Until then take care...

Hey ya'll, I know I'm late to this post, but I'd like to be included too. My mom was crocheting the other day and I asked how she did it. She was shocked I had no idea how to crochet. Anyway, there are lots of things I'd like to learn from ya! Hope all of ya are good, and I look forward to meeting with you one day!

I would really like to be involved in the northern utah chapter. Even though I live in Wyoming, my house is literally 1/2 mile from the norther utah border. I would hope that qualifies. *s* I also know another gal from Randolph that might come down with me. Please let me know if you have any Northern Utah gatherings. I would really love to attend.

I'm kinda an expert at nothing, but competent in lots. I am a Master Gardener, so I could contribute with a garden tour of Evanston someday or just some classes on gardening.

I really think that the group needs a "Mom" who will schedule the first eventand get it rolling. One of you gals on the Wasatch Front maybe. (Centrally located)

Let me know what you think.

Sheron, I'm interested in talking to you about gardening. I love it, but I've never really been educated in gardening. I have worked for two landscapers, but have done all the clean up and manual labor. As a master gardener, do you know about soils. Other questions I have are about have blooming plants all year. I know some bloom at different times, so I am interested in learning about flowers and plants that would go together so that I'd have color all summer. How do you become a Master Gardener anyway?

Thanks!

There is a small chapter in Clearfield (near Ogden). We usually meet on the 4th Saturday of each month. This month we are going to learn to make soap from one of the members. Any other farmgirls who want to join us would be welcomed.

On another note, Libbie, Jenny and myself got together a few weeks ago and thought it would be great to have all the Utah farmgirls meet quarterly (Sherone..that inlcudes you!).

I do know about soils. what you need is a loam. This is soil that has lots of organic matter in it. Take a hanful of soil. Crunch it together. If it falls apart, there is too much sand. If it sticks like glue, too much clay. If it sticks together nicely, but will fall apart when touched, you have a nice loam.

If you have sand, add organic matter.
If you have clay, do not add sand!!! You get cement. *LOL* Add organic matter.
If you have loam, add organic matter.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is add organic matter for good soil.

As far as the flowers you need, please tell me your Gardening Zone. That will help me choose plants for your area.

Last piece of advise.....go to your extention office and ask for a soil test. It is very inexpensive and is worth the wait. While you are there, ask them about the Master Gardener classes. Well worth your time, I promise.

I'm sorry sorry I missed it. I completely over scheduled myself that day and I forgot that it was High Scholl Graduation that day. Ended up eating dinner at six different house that day. (It's hard to say no to all that good food)

So, I'll try to make the June meeting. What will we be doing and what can I bring?

Wow! It would be so great to have everyone show up. The date is Saturday, June 20th at 10:00 am in Clearfield, Utah. We are going to learn about the use of essential oils in healing. E-mail me and I'll give you the address and directions.

Yippie!
