You also have 5 (maybe 6) girls to bequeath them to. Who knows, Carmen may start collecting them too. LOL As each girl leaves the nest, it will become family tradition to send them off with a sewing machine. Even it it's just across town. So, really, they aren't all "yours", you are just holding them in a "trust". I can justify just about any sewing machine acquisition. ROFL

While searching through my sewing room today, hoping to find the red and white striped material I got a few weeks ago, I discovered a couple old aprons I had completely forgotten. One is a half apron with the most wonderful cloth, pink honeycomb in the backround, and lots of bees, I really should take a picture of that one, and then a sweet little purple half apron. I really need to go through my material agian and sort it by color or something, I have too much fabric, but only about five sewing machines. That;s not too wicked is it? Last summer I got a sweet little Singer in a table and it came with a little stool, which had a storage compartment crammed with lots of old rickrack and bias tape with sweet little designs. i paid $ 25.00 for it. i thought that was quite reasonable, I cleaned it and put on a new belt, and it sews like a dream. It is always good to have a backup machine...or two or three...Karin I still haven't found the fabric I was looking for.

you should hang a very long closet rod, and start hanging your fabric Karin...I did that and now I find it so fast...and smaller bits I keep folded on a shelf, but that always turns into a mess for me. Just a suggestion...your cute little singer sounds awesome. btw..i love your blog.

Still working on 'em here. Sorry to be taking so long but I can't seem to get to the machine. I do have some finished though and will do my best to get them to you soon Kathie. I don't want to hold everyone up.

Jess Thank you for the hanging fabric idea, that's a good one. It's just that I have such an overload I don't know where to start. I have bins of scrap, log cabin strips, 1 1/4" and 1 3/4", then small reproduction rectangles left over from a quilt I made a while back. Then there are the triangle blocks, I don't remember how many of those quilts I made, but I kept cutting more different colored triangles so there are probably enough of those to make five more quilts. And on and on, boxes of pincushion fabric, costume stuff, etc. My daughter accuses me of having fabric that I srarted collecting .either at the War of 1812, or the Revolutionary war, or if she's really cranky, at the dawn of time. Happy Mother's Day to all the farmgirls! Karin

ooohhhh...well for blocks, I have them all in plastic shoeboxes labeled on the outside and stacked up. Unless there are only enough for 1 quilt, then in a ziploc on a shelf. As for everything else, be creative. I never knew how much fabric I had until I hung it all and measured it and labelled it as I hung it. Then I found out I had over 4, 000 yards, and 2 huge bins of scraps and blocks, and a shelf fulll of flat folds, too bulky to hang, and a 10 foot shelf stacked 3 or 4 high with the shoe boxes full of squares that are finished, or just cut squares of different sizes.

Happpy MOthers Day everyone...I just napped for 3 hours..hows that for a great gift!?

Jess, I think your ideas are brilliant, I shudder to think of the total yardage at my house, and do I ever know the feeling of "what possessed me to purchase this?". There is a store about an hour away from me that is really deadly, they have a wonderful fabric department, lots of new fabrics sprinkled in, anywhere from a dollar a yard up. Sometimes when they're having aa really big sale i will purchase a six yard piece for a quilt back. At 50 cents a yard, it always proves to be irresistible to me.....and I have been hoarding fabric since childhood....I have lots of unfinished quilt tops, I just have to get them all together and have someone machine quilt them for me. I like to hand quilt, but the big ones are beyond me these days..........I did by some miracle locate my missing piece of fabric I had gotten for the 4th of July minis so now I can pat that for a few days before coming up with an idea for them....Karin

Yep...that is what I do, "...oooohhhh looky cute cheap fabric,"...must have all of it. Then I come home and what am I gonna do with it? All the projects never take very long, my goodness me, I have other things in life to tend to as well..kids, husband, house, the like. Then it becomes a collection piece you know. Oh and quilt tops, I have tehm all over, even hidden in my clothing closet....I need some vintage material from like 1910 or 20 for some backs, but when am I going to find that...so the search goes on to buy vintage repros....because I need more fabric, right?

Dont' you cringe when whomever is measuring your fabric asks, "what are you making?"
I always think to myself, "hell, I don't know, I'm just stockpiling~when do I buy fabric just for a specific project???" ROFL!! But geez, I'm way small potatoes compared to you Jess. I haven't bought much lately, and have been actually using it up. (I know, it's shocking but true.......lol)

Oh, but now if you want to talk yarn.........there I haven't been so "good".
I just ordered myself several cones of cotton "Peaches 'n Creme" as a Mother's Day gift to myself, since I was PO'd that my "ex" monopolized my son for the day. These colors are sure to cheer you up~aren't they all so pretty! :

Bonne, I was thinking of you today and how you whip up a quilt when you have an excess of scraps. My scrap pile exceeds my new fabric stash....I should be more like you and get busy using those scraps up!

I'm betting it will make her happy to see her fabric going to someone that will use it.
;)
Bev, just start making 9 patch blocks from your scrap fabrics and stack 'em up. Before you know it, you'll be able to stitch those blocks into strips and the strips into an entire blanket. You've got some beautiful scraps just waiting to be shown off in a colorful menangerie.

Yippee Karin you did it. The slacker here isn't done.
Nash, how wonderful that they thought of you and knew that you did care about fabric. It matters to those who know there time is shorter, it was to my mil. I have been grateful because it allowed me to do some quilting and still does. She has been gone for 4 years now and some of the fabric every once in a while has the wift of her perfume and smells like their household. NOw that is sweet.
Sharing makes like awfully fun just for the surprize of it all. Hope that made sense.

Need to head for bed, changed meds again, hope this works better. Do you ever feel like a guinia pig with your doctor. Ughhh But at least it is on the prescription program and I get help with it. Yippee.
