I almost threw the remote at the tv when I heard the first woman asked a question. How can you be so dumb. Did you noticed she never once smiled? I think with all the things she bought she was never happy. For those of you who didn't watch she was living a pretty good life--bought only the "best" never "thought about what she threw in the grocery cart" AND never saved a dime if things got bad. She was definately not a farmgirl at heart JoAnn |

Yea, I really couldn't believe that she was saying those things. Her car is an extension of her? I can't feel sad for someone like that. It's so funny what some people think is, "the best." Bridget, It seems like you are freaked out by this recession. I can recall quite a few topics posted by you. I looked at your blogs, and noticed that you buy Lilly Pulitzer. Here's what I wish you would do. Instead of buying one of her dresses, take that $ and buy a sewing machine and make your own sheath dress or A-line or circle skirt. You will be surprised how easy they are to make. You will feel very proud of yourself, and amazed at how good you feel when people tell you how much they like it. I have a Simplicity pattern that is a six in one, that looks exactly like her designs. You can find super cute fabric on ebay. Try Amber Butler fabric from ebay. I actually think her designs are better. Alexander Henry, JRJ, and other good ones are about $7/yd. http://stores.ebay.com/Emerald-City-Fabric-and-Craft You never know, it might turn into a business for you.

I used to have an obsession for designer purses...and still do look at them online and in the store. The difference now is that I have learned to sew my own bags, I love it, and I now look at the designer bags to get ideas from not to buy.

I just read Bridget's blog about money and found it fasinating! Though I don't see you as a huge spender for some reason it reminds me of the book Confessions of a Shopaholic. I'm not saying you are one, I'm just saying that like your blog I was also fasniated with that book because it was interesting to read about someone spending money on things I can't/don't/won't buy. I'm cheap and my spending habits would be sooooo boring to anyone, even myself. Grocery store, gas, and that's about it!! -Elizabeth |

Don't say cheap, Elizabeth, say frugal. You are more level-headed than most people your age!

a question gurlfrenz .. jus' curious ... if you had plenty of money .. if you gave generously to charities .. if you planned for your comfortable financial future (in a responsible way) .. if you took care of family and loved ones financially ... and you still had plenty of money .. would you buy things you wanted?
if not .. and if you had plenty of money for now and a comfortable future .. what would you do with all that money? (give it away? leave it to someone after you die? spend it on luxuries?
(i'm not talking about hoarding and piling up lots of unnecessary 'stuff' ... but buying things you love .. taking trips .. whatever gave you joy in this lifetime)
IF YOU HAD MILLIONS of DOLLARS .. AND HAD TO SPEND IT ON YOURSELF .. OR GIVE IT UP .. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? AND IF YOU CHOSE TO 'SPEND IT' .. WHAT WOULD YOU BUY?

I would definately travel. I think that things you learn and people you meet, can really enrich your life. My family took me out of school in the 2nd grade, and we went cross country, and up and down the East Coast. It was my job to keep track of mileage, had to figure out how much longer, all the states and capitals, etc. Later in school, I could tell the class how I had been to Mt. Rushmore, and why Georgia was my favorite state, etc. I think it is too bad that more people don't think it is important. I also would give to hungry people and battered women.

We were just talking about this with some friends the other day and we all said the same thing...
We'd buy up every last acre, half-acre and parcel of available land around here - and invest enough money to pay the taxes each year.
