I bought 4 lots of vintage linens (all kinds of hand embroidered tea towels, dresser scarves and 40's and 50's tablecloths) for $10.00 and I splurged a little on this tea cannister and old Johnson Brothers plate because I really wanted them...also $10.00.
Overall it was a good experience, but those auction folks are a strange lot aren't they? It was somewhat "cutthroat" there every now and again, for...well, frankly, junky stuff. The furniture wasn't that old, but it didn't stop people from getting all wonky eyed and bidding way too much!!!

Alright, the first photos are of the linens;
These are all (upon first look) really nice and without damage

Tablecloths!!!! Some stained but not too terrible,I think I can work with em
Some cutter or mending linens.
Oddly enough, this was in one of the boxes of linens:
And, the two pieces that I had to have and waited (and waited and waited) for them to auction. By that time, there wasn't anyone there :)
So, for my first auction, I did pretty well, I guess. Nothing of major value, but stuff I like and that's cool enough!!!!

Well, in actuality, Zan, I bought the linens with the idea of keeping a few, and then giving the rest as farmgirl gifts  sortof random like....
Jus said if I brought home any more linens I better open a museum, so I already have a plan of action :)

Thanks Marybeth! I really thought the plate was lovely, and while I don't have that much flothru blue, I still love it if the pattern is "simple" enough...and the tea canister, it's not marked but I like it--thank you :)
Yep Zan, for the museum--shoot, he won't even notice. Ok, well, he might notice the paperbox full of linens that I walked the mile home down my street with :)

Thanks, gals! I'm washing up the linens today--using my beloved borax to whiten. It's too bad the sun isn't shining here today, I'd put them all out on the lawn. But, it's Springtime in Kentucky, so that means chilly and grey :)

lovely finds miz jonni! oh so many sweet things you could do with those linens! especially the tablecloths! they make such fun summer skirts!!! and outdoor picnic cloths! i think your blue plate was my fav! remember .. miz tina is looking for snippets of olde linens if you are thinking of gifting any! i have some wonderful books of treasures to make with vintage linens .. if you need some ideas .. jus' let me know!
i got a few treasures at my mos' fav antiques shoppe in all of ohio (at least the ones i've discovered so far!) it's in toledo .. near my daughter's home (WILDWOOD off of Airport drive and route 275 .. i think .. for any of you gurlz in the area!) i love what they sell and such great prices too. surprizingly . .not all that 'primitive' .. but i do get lovely linens, silver servicing pieces and fabulous BOOKS there!)

Thanks, Miz Frannie and Karin...it's so funny that that little illustration was in the bottom of the box. Upon closer look, it's a pencil sketch of a man and woman walking on a snowy day from Church. It looks sortof English.
Tina Michelle is looking for snippets? I sure have several :)
I will probably keep a few of the tablecloths, but others I will gift. I have a barn ladder full in my house already, and I LOVE those--there are a couple here that I think are downright pretty, but for whatever reason, am not "attached" like I am to the ones in my living room. Perhaps because I bought them all to decorate for Justin's surprise 30th birthday party several years ago...dunno. I like the "hunt" though, for sure!

gosh, frannie, everytime i read one of your posts, i think, i wish she was in my neighborhood.
we would be craftin or gatherin up items to craft with. and the spots you tell us about sound wonderful!
we still have great thrifting finds in our area, but they have changed over the years, with higher prices and lower quality of finds, but in general we are still in a pretty good area for "thrifting">
did you ever make your trip to houston?
if ya ever come close to our farm, frannie i hope you will come stay with us, i would love to meet you in person.

THANKS SWEET TEXAS FRANNIE. haven't made it to houston yet .. but it IS on the list of places to visit .. hopefully before that newest GRANDE is born! and i will surely call you!! thanks for the sweet invite! hank will be so excited to see his cousins that he hasn't seen in so many years! they have tons of life to catch up on! we've also been talking about a 'mini-wini' cross-country trip .. probably AFTER the baby is born and i spend some time in toledo helping with the three chilluns!

Jonni, I love auctions but you are right at times I wonder what are you thinking biding that much on that! My DH has also said no more linens but he has no idea that I take them right up to the attic and box them and bring them down one by one. Haven't been to an auction in a couple of years but the season is fast approaching so I can start again. I love going to the auctions that are held right on the farm or someones home. I know who the dealers are, so I know what's what and get some good deals because they have to mark up in their shops. Frannie I never thought about using the tablecloths as a summer skirt. How do you do yours? Thanks for sharing the pics.

Jonni, you got some beautiful things. All the work that must of gone into the embroidered ones! That plate alone was worth at least $20. So you did a very good job!

It was fun, for sure...I think I'll go to another auction soon, but I'd like to do the farm one's or an estate auction.

Jonnie I cant wait for our little looking excursion, We are going to have fun I love the old farm auctions to.I was going to Bardstown to the antique show this week end but my parents and brother came down so mom and I ended up making 43 nice rag balls, We did it at night so I let the men tear the strips and mom and I rolled them Keep up the good buys girl you done good
