Hi!Thank you for all the welcomes! I am in North Texas, just 20 minutes from Oklahoma-we are between denton and gainesville----We have an African Pigmy goat and a Nubian/Boare goat. Our donkeys'parents are Giants,so they are the size of a small horse. Our dog is a Rhodesian Ridgeback, who wandered up to our gate- a blessing for us,and a loss for the @#$%^&& people that dumped him-

cowgirlmama, just checked back with this post tofind you live between denton and gainesville. i live north of bonham, on the map look for ravenna, i live close to that.
oh my, i think you are the closest of any of the farmgirls to our farm.
just kinda exciting to know there is another farmgirl that close. i think there are alot of us here in texas, but we are scattered all over the place.
anyway, hope to hear more from you.

Cowgirlmama,
I live just south of Norman.
Isn't it "kinda dangerous" to wear red in Texas on Texas/OU weekend??!! :)

No, we don't live in the country, but in a very small town called Noble. We move here last May from OKC where we had acreage and a large house. It was too much "up keep". Here we have a small home on 5 city lots with several garden areas and large shade trees.
People here are friendly and very laid back! This reminds me of the small midwestern towns in Wisconsin that I grow up living in - it's very much like "coming home"!
One of the best part of downsizing and moving was being able to quit my full time job.

Your home sounds wonderful-small town living is the best-my husband and I downsized alot when we moved to our little farm 11 years ago-We built a 2 bedroom-2 bath house-nothing fancy, and we love it!this change enabled my husband to retire at 64,and I recently graduated from UNT>and applied to Grad school-Having less to mess with/pay for/clean,etc. is so wonderful! It is funny how our priorities change as we get older-we are very happy, and it sounds like you are too!congrats!

Thanks, it is pretty amazing not to have all that stuff to take care of!! Wonder why we didn't do this before? I am doing so many things what I've been wanting to do for sooo long that I'm a bit overwhelmed. Will have to sort this out and decide what I really want. I feel like a kid in a candy shop and I can't pick and choose! It is a great feeling to be free of the weights of unwanted material things.
You have goats? Do you sell the milk? or do soap making? One things I've wanted to do is have chickens. I was so amazed to see that some people down the street from us have chickens (and a garden space to die for!!) I never thought you could have chickens in town, sooo... maybe something to think about next year? Right now I am looking forward to a little gardening this year and enjoying sewing again and teaching sewing classes.

A friend loves at all times.

We just watch the goats and love on them-we have 2 males-one is an African pigmy, and the other is a neutered Boer/Nubian.They each came from different neighbors who raise goats. The neighbors both started raising them for little lawn mowers-also one neighbor's grandson shows them in FFA.But we just love them.We are looking forward to veggie garden next season-my husband just retired(I think I already said that),and will have time to devote to it.When you get chickens are you going to sell eggs?
