Christmas Gifts.... well, I usually start early, this year I'm late, but I always end up making a lot of the things I give. Some of them are "Semi-Homemade" lol.

One year I gave a friend and her family a "family night" A large bowl for popcorn, popcorn, and a Blockbuster gift certificate for 2 movies.

Another family received 4 large soup "cups" with a package that combines all the dry ingredients to make homemade soup, and some homemade crackers.

I've crocheted more hates and scarves that anyone person should in their lifetime. Which everyone I know has received.

I've crocheted aphgans of all sizes.

My daughter and I make up baskets consisting of Homemade cookies, canned applesauce and cranberry sauce.

Coffee/hot cocoa cups with hot cocoa mix and a bag of marshmallows.

Fleece blankets for everyone one year. real easy, no sewing at all just cut to size and you can even use pinking shears to create a fun edge.

I tend to hit the sales or the dollar store, they sometimes have some great deals, and buy in bulk. My daughter splits everything up evenly among her friends and the all get a bag full of useful things. one year a photo album, note cards, fun pens, socks, address book with our address and phone #, and then one thing special for each.

As for my family I try to make them something they all need. last year a fleece jacket for my sister, clothes for my daughter, fleece hats and scarves for my 2 nephews, and a blanket and wrap for my mom.

this year I am making travel items for all of my daughters friends, they tend to travel a lot whether it's for college of summertime fun. and quilts and more homemade food items.

Cathy -- Do you mean 'hats and scarves'? When I read that you typed 'hates and scarves' it kinda told me that you didn't enjoy the crocheting! (hee hee -- just teasing)

DH and I made applesauce this weekend, and canned it (18 pints!). That's what EVERYBODY on our list is getting, except DH's 14year-old niece, for whom I made a felted knit purse, and my three little brothers (age 10-14) who are getting sheet music since they each play an instrument. Total cost for the applesauce, about $35 including new canning jars. Sheet music, about $20, purse, free (all from stash! go me!). Shipping will be the biggie, but we have all the boxes we need, and a shredder to make packing materials out of junk mail (those things are great!). Any other homemade stuff I get finished is gravy.

Holly, Jack Vettriano is also one of my favorite artists. Very Hopper, who is also one of my faves. If you have a Barnes and Noble near you, check out the Bargain table where the art books are. I got a great, large Vettriano book there this week for $12.95. If you can't find one, I'll get one for you if they have any left at B&N around my area.

Patricia

Happy Wishes!

Another tip: Big Lots this week had fleece throws for $2.97!! I bought a bunch and took them to my local animal shelter for the dogs and found out there were more dogs than throws so I went back and they were cleaned out. If your Big Lots has any they make great gifts.

Hi Kristi! It's tough when you have a bunch on your list and you still have your own also. Sometimes, especially for those I see little but feel I should still get something for---I've made family gifts of a medium to large tin filled with baked goods and topped off with a small bag of colorfully wrapped hard candies like butterscotch. Or I've made Christmas ornaments with rubber stamps or other inexpensive materials for each member of the family with their name on it. This is especially good for a new baby, new couple, new home, etc. Hope this helps!

Be true in heart.

I have always had good luck making "themed baskets". I pick up inexpensive baskets at yardsales, flea mkts and thrift shops. For example... last year I made my brother a chicken soup basket. I added pot holders, and a dish towel,a packet of crackers, a pkg of dehydrated soup mix plus a can of chicken. For Gram I put together a snowflaked themed tea basket with pot holders, tea towels, tea and an individual tea pot with mug. I have also made a movie night baskets with a dvd, candy, and popcorn. I think there is an unlimited supply of ideas with this one. You can individualize them to suit the recipient of the basket.

Karen, I did theme baskets one year for everyone and it was the most fun I've had gift buying/making. It would be fun to have a "gift basket" thread and get ideas. I was just thinking a "bread making" basket would be fun - rolling pin, towel, loaf pan, some bread recipes on cards, etc.

Julie,
I am pretty computer illiterate so I don't know what a thread is. DUH! Fill me in! I just put together a baby shower basket for this coming Saturday. I bought a big basket at Salvation Army for 99c. Then I added 2 jumpers @ $ 8.00 for both, a 99c bib, baby wipes, lavender baby wash and changing pads. The whole thing cost me less than
$15.00 including card, and ribbon.
