I pulled a really stupid one today!!!!! I wanted to fuse fabric to that iron on backing, and put the iron down on the wrong side and got all that glue stuff on my iron. Is there a secret to getting it off or should I just go buy a new iron!!!! RATS!!!!! Cora

I JUST read this the other day! It said to use a fabric softner sheet to wipe the residue off. While the iron is still hot/warm...hope it helps!

Cora, You can buy iron cleaners at fabric stores that do a really good job at cleaning the bottoms of irons. I don't know about fusable webbing but I have used it many times to clean starch and grim off of mine. Good luck!

you can also make a paste of water and baking soda when the iron is cool and use that to try and clean the bottom of the iron.

I have used the iron cleaning stuff that is sold in small tubes. You put it on while the iron is hot and iron across an old towel or something. Takes the gunk right off.

Thanks, all of you! I used a combination of all of the above, and I was able to get most of it off. Unfortunately, I did not start working on it immediately, so it was well set!!!! What a gooey mess. The fabric softener sheet didn't touch it. The other stuff did. The stuff in the tube worked the best! Thanks again!

I have read that ironing a piece of wax paper with the wax side up will do the trick for cleaning an iron.

These are some good tricks to know for cleaning an iron! I can't remember what exactly it was that I ironed anymore, but it left a residue all over the bottom of the iron, that would burn and streak off on other fabric later on. Oooh, now I remember...LOL It was a bit of wax left on some fabric I'd tried to practice batik on. Messy stuff. Anywho, there's still some of the stuff on there, I should try these tips and see if I can get the rest off. :)
