I am going to put together a CD of classical music for listening to around the house, and especially for Nora to listen to. I really believe that the rhythms, sounds, and even mathematical equations that go in to classical music enrich the environment and help stimulate imagination.
The first few songs that I am looking for are
Leo Delibes' "Flower Duet"- Simply amazing.
Robert Schumann's "Scenes From Childhood"
Giacomo Puccini's "O Mio Babbino Caro" (I think that means "Oh My Baby Caro" in Italian)
Any from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Any From Johann Sebastian Bach
Edvard Grieg
Any from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Camille Saint-Saens
Heitor Villa-Lobos
Aaron Copland
Bela Bartok
Claude Debussy
What others can you suggest?

Please DO NOT forget Mozart - I see he is on your list. It is said that his adagios, and many of his works enrich and activate the new and growing mind. I have a CD that is for babies, especially, and I play it for my grandgirls as they nap.
Also look into Sebelius. Wonderful, glorious music!!! And Rachmaninoff, too.
Good for you to give your little one the classics for listening!

| Oh definitely "Clair de Lune" by Debussy and "Afternoon of a Faun". Clair de Lune is my alltime favorite piece of classical music because it transcends everything around me. I am really like a crocodile (or is it an alligator?) getting its belly rubbed.....powerless to do anything else but enjoy. Hugs! Nance |

You have to include Handel's Water Music and Vivaldi's Four Seasons- both wonderful for listening to-especially when you are cleaning house!! These were my daughter's favorites.

I'm a big fan of Tchaikovsky and the 1812 Overture
The Firebird Suite and The Planets can't remember who the composers are but I played both in marching band waaaay back in the 80's.
Also, don't forget the more modern composers like Andrew

Brahms has a lot of beautiful pieces as well. My husband used to play in the symphony (until his cranky wife made him quit, because he needed to be home in the evenings with his wife and kids . . .) so he might have more suggestions. I will ask him. I hope he can someday re-join the symphony. It takes a lot of time, which is hard when you have three kids, a business, your wives business, plus a more than full time job as a paramedic! Nothing better than the classics . . . well, maybe country gospel . . .

Lots of Chopin and my all time favorite Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin. After that, any Gershwin is great - An American in Paris, Porgy and Bess (although it's sad, it has some great music. 
"O Mio Babbino Caro" is "Oh my dear child" in Italian. I love that one too.

I love playing easy classics on the piano
I love Bach,
I love the Cannon in D
Some of the classical music is really hard to play,

OMG thank you for posting about Gershwin. LOVE HIM!!!!!! Rhapsody in Blue is my fav and he really really contributed some amazing pieces of music! Hmm I think we're on the same page:)

I love all the great suggestions! :D I am really excited to put together a beautiful CD for Nora and I to listen to.
Whenever I listen to classical music, it paints landscapes and feelings of adventure in my imagination. I love sitting down to write (I like to write fiction) listening to classical music. Some of the best writing I have ever done were some dramatic scenes while listening to powerful classical music. :D

I;ll put in a plug for Peter and the Wolf and Mozart's Saltzburg Symphonies, though you can hardly go wrong with mozart...
When my son was little he would sit on the stairs that divided the downstairs of our old house and tell me it was his favorite place to listen to "the big music" which was what he called classical music. Aaron Gopland's music is lovely too. You are a smart mom! Kids are so open to music. Karin
