One of my older cockers, Sister was checked today for a lump that had developed between groomings. She has some tumors, one larger than the tiny little pea sized lumps - They are mammory tumors. She will have them removed and also be spayed on Tuesday so if you could all please include Sister in your prayers it would really be appreciated. I have changed my mind on getting baby goats, I must take care of my dogs first and foremost. Sister is an angel and I love her soooo much - Thanks Kathy of the Enchanted Wood

Good luck I'm a firm believer in the power of prayer even for animals
Hope your furbaby goes through surgery ok
For us in the wholistic rhelm I'll pass this along to you.
Tumors feed on carbohydrates. When your dog recovers, think about switcing her food to 1. higher quality (non-mainstream if you can) and 2. more protein based rahter than starchy
Good that you are finally getting her spayed! |

Thanks Anna - She eats Pro Plan Chicken and Rice food - I feed all of my dogs that. I breed cockers spaniels and she is retired and was getting spayed regardless - I know that vets tell you that spaying them early prevents mammary cancer but it does not - I have seen enough cases of it - but spaying them is important just the same. I believe that like people, dogs are predisposed to cancer. I pray it is benign. Thanks for your prayers and suggestions.

The surgery was pretty extensive as the tumor was a triangle shape and required difficult stitching. The spay went fine - Sister will be staying over with a morphine drip till some time late tomorrow and will come home with an E collar to keep her from bothering the stitche areas. We have sent out a biopsy - please pray that it is not a malignant type of cancer. She was a real trooper, and I had the best dr in the practice do the surgery. The cost did go up though and was over $1000 - but they are my children so I had better get more stuff listed on ebay and more books listed on Abebooks and Alibris. She did not want me to leave her this morning, very hard to leave them. Pray for my Sister dog please!

Update on Sister - She has come home today - we left her an extra night after the vet and I tried to get her in the car and she had some blood from incision. Her incision is huge and very bruised and she is on a lot of pain meds but is coming along nicely. She if very happy to be home! They called with biopsy results today and it was benign thank God and Goddess - it apparently there was some cystic material as well as the nodules. It will take a long time for this to heal, but it is all behind her now. Thank you for all of your prayers, they have helped, as you can see! Love Kathy of the Enchanted Wood

Sister is coming along fine - every day she is healing nicely and so far is not bothering the incision except for the occasional itch. I however spent the better part of Saturday in the ER- alone of course as hubby did not drive me - woke up with bad pain behind right eye and blurry vision - corneal scratches and dr removed a foreign body (too bad it wan't johnny depp's body) was a hair, probably a cat or dog one I am sure.

Oh, Kathy - sorry to hear you were in the ER! How the heck did you get corneal scratches? By rubbing your eye when the hair was stuck in there? OUCH! Hoep you are on the mend now, too!

Kathy, I just read this thread now. I'm glad that Sister is doing better. I hope your eye soon starts feeling better as well. |

My wonderful Mom gifted me with my choice of garden books from Amazon; specifically, Herb Gardens. I selected half a dozen books to add to my Herb Library and have devoured them this past winter, so I am ready and anxious to plant seeds and plants in another few weeks.
