this goes right along with the pillowcase dress. There were some great links for that one shared and i was wondering if there are any of you girls that would have a tutorial on pantaloons/bloomers. i think that i could basically figure them out by myself and use a pant pattern, but if someone has a link or something that would be great. At the thrift store today i picked up 2 very LONG pillowcases. They have around 6inch lace at the end. They are a butter cream color. i think that they'll work perfect! They don't have any embroidery on them, but i have a friend with a machine that does all that and a lot of patterns. So i might look through those and do one at the end also.

Children's Corner "Lettie" is a great pattern because the legs are a true pantaloon length (many commercial patterns claiming to be pantaloons are too short :) )
I have ordered from this company, elegant stitches, before. They are very friendly and helpful.

You have to scroll down most of the page till you see "lettie"
Sometimes though, you can find this pattern on ebay for less.
The other thing you'd want to keep in mind if using a pillowslip as your fabric, is that the cuff edge of pants are not usually a straight line, it is curved. so when laying out your pattern you'd have to take that into consideration. I think there are other sewers on this board who could help explain how to lay the pattern so that you can keep the lace all along the bottom edge, but with what time it is tonight I'm afraid my directions would be rather bewildering :) |
