My neighbor from Texas has been struggling with her weight. She is just a hair under 250 now, but she started at 300lbs. She was so embarassed to even walk outside but she finally decided enough was enough and she needed to do something about her life. She carries a large bottle of ice w/ a little water- in Texas, it melts in about 10 minutes and has been walking 4 MILES a day for the past 3 months and has lost 50 lbs. She has had only one person yell something rude to her but everyone else in the neighborhood has been supportive and she has made about 20 new friends. I am so proud of her. I am going to buy her some really awesome walking shorts in pink (her favorite color) that cool and support at the same time. The are shorts with bike shorts underneath. She has been wearing old stretchy pants andI so think she deserves something special.

I myself would be considered "obese" and sometimes I would let fear hold me back to exercising but not anymore!! She really have put the wind in my sails to start living my life!!!

Just a little inspiration!!!

Cheers,
Heather

What a great inspiring story! The hardest part is starting, and I bet she feels amazing now that she is exercising so much! And you know what! I bet she is fitter than most people! I certainly don't walk 4 miles a day! (I should, but I don't! LOL)

You are an awesome friend, Heather! I bet she will love the shorts!

She found a beautiful road along the river in Texas that she can walk safely and it is slightly shaded to help with shielding from the sun. I will probably join her when I get back there. She also dips her toesies in the cold, cold water to cool off. I haven't seen her yet but I know she looks amazing!!! When I do get there, we are going clothing shopping, as she is still wearing her old clothes. She was so cute, she told me both boobes can now fit into one cup of her old bra---she had me laughing!!!

She also got a new job, she hasn't worked in years. She works at the local florist and loves it!! She gets to meet so many people. And...on top of all that...she is cutting her very long hair!!! She wants something short like mine and I am going with her and getting mine trimmed up the same day. She really is an inspiration!!

She is in her mid 40's, kids are all out of the house and her hubby left her 4 years ago. That is when she gained so much weight. She is going to sell her house and find something "that fits her personality and life better" (her words). She would like just a cottage (this is how we bonded, over talking about cottage decorating) and she is even thinking of moving down by the water. We may even look for a house near her because we want to go "tubing" on the river all the time. That would be fun!!!She is looking for a new start on things and really is ready to give up about 80% of what she owns.

She is going to have a major yardsale in May- she is putting all her stuff in the garages right now and is in the process of fixing up the house for sale. Her son, he is such a sweet heart, came over and painted the bathrooms and the kitchen for her. I told her I could "stage" the house for her. I used to do this for a company I worked for. I even have some extras I can bring over to spruce up the place.

I will keep you all posted!!!

Cheers,
Heather

Heather,
That's a great story. Good for her! Sometimes it's so hard to start because we feel self conscious or so embarrassed. It took a lot for her to just get out and do it. She's lucky to have a friend like you to cheer her on.

Isn't is wonderful when people start really living and changing their lives for the better! She should be so proud of herself. You are such a kind and thoughtful friend to want to help her so much. I can tell this has really turned her life around. I have been hearing so much much of that attitude in your posts lately too. That makes me so happy for both of you.

Oh that is just WONDERFUL news to hear Heather! It's awesome that the neighborhood is supportive of her as well in this new adventure. It's a long road, but it can be done even without surgery. I send many wishes for health and happiness for her. I like the idea of the new shorts, etc as a gift for her.

I will be honest..ever since I was young, I was treated horribly about my weight, even though looking back, I wasn't overweight at all- actually had a "hot" body but families can be cruel. I remember those stinging comments and when I lost weight, I was never encouraged (in a healthy way) and was always told I would always be fat "looking" no matter what. That and I looked like my father (ummm...I am sorry but do not tell your sensitive daughter she looks like her father..bad...real bad...)

Anywho, my whole life I have never been able to be mean or down on people and I know that is where it comes from. If someone is being mean now, I stand up for the person they are ridiculing. It is seared into my heart and my friend is so sweet that I would kick some booty if anyone ever said anything disrespectful in her direction. Same with anyone here.

I do wish people had more compassion and understanding. We need to turn the garbage off tv and stop trying to be size 0's with big boobes and forever 20 year old looks. Real woman are fabulous and I am out to encourage ever single one of them!!!

I step down from my soapbox now...thank you!!!

Cheers,
Heather

I couldn't agree more, Heather! I hate all the commercials on TV with "regenerist" type ads. What is wrong with showing your age? And I am so sad for people who continually put themselves at risk with operation after operation to make themselves look younger or suck out this big and plumb up that bit. Did you know they even have implants to mimic muscles? Ugh. I can understand needed corrective surgery. I have a sister that might need to have a breast reduction because our genetics can lead to huge breasts. But it isn't for looks, but rather for health of her back and shoulders.

I am a bit soft around the middle myself, but I have decided on focusing on getting to the point where I feel healthy and not some "magic" number. :D Let's all cheer on those of us and friends who are getting active and eating healthy instead of stressing about some stupid number :D
