Ok, ladies, I need help! I have something going on with my left eye. For what's going on two months I have been having pain. I'm going to try to explain it, but it may sound like a woman explaining strange car noises to the mechanic! The feeling is more like something pressing down on the back of the eyeball, maybe the nerve or muscles and hurts even more when I close my eyes and move the eye downwards. See, I told ya! It gradually gets worse throughout the course of the day. Being a massage therapist, I tried massaging the area around the eye socket, which helps but only minimally. And yes, I have seen a doctor, opthalmalogist (sp). But after the exam, he came up with this... "It could be dry eye." I explained that I don't think that was it, because I am allergic to everything, and the bigger problem is that my eyes tear up too much. OK, well, if anyone is an actual eye doctor, I don't mean to offend. He asked where I sleep and if there is a vent in the room. ~yes~ "Do you sleep right over it or under it?" ~ uh,~ no ~, that would mean sleeping on the floor curled up in the corner of the room. "Well, then you must be sleeping with your eyes open for long periods of time, and not be noticing it" That MAY be true....but I know for sure that someone in this house would notice something like that. And not only would they say something about it, they would totally freak out! He gave me a prescription allergy eye drops and "dry-eye" drops to use 4 times a day. At the tune of $40 bucks a months, and since they aren't working, I'm trying to find out what's going on. Has anyone ever had this or even heard of something like this. It's driving me buggy!!

I know an optometrist pretty well and will ask him if he knows anything about something like this.
I have had something similar happen to my eyes in allergy attack season, when I am stressed, or dehydrated. Have you tried drinking a bit more water? Did he do an eye pressure test to test for early onset glaucoma? Also could it be possible that you have a grain of sand or something that got caught up behind your eye?
One last suggestion- is maybe your are super tired?

Dear Alee, Yes, well I suppose he did. They did a type of pressure test, putting drops in, then used a electronic gauge to touch the surface of the eyeball measuring the pressure. Then they did a eye wash to make sure there wasn't anything "stuck" behind my eye, nothing. Super-tired. I thought of that, but it's not that. I'm getting enough sleep and I am drinking gallons of water.

Sherry - I've had the EXACT same pain in both eyes for the last several years. It isn't all the time and when it hurts, even touching my eye lid would hurt. I finally went to a specialist and he diagnosed me with some crazy medical term that means "Contact Lens Fatigue Syndrome." I wear my contacts only at work and wear my glasses as much as possible and that seems to help.

Rachel, I got an idea from your post. While I don't wear contacts, last year I started wearing readers, the lightest duty, while reading and more recently for sewing. I turned 41 and POOF! all of a sudden they started printing everything smaller! LOL! Anyway, I started thinking that possibly my left eye is weaker than the right and maybe it's "fatigued" trying to keep up??? Maybe I should try an optometrist (sp) instead for better readers. Just a thought.

Sherry, It might even be migraine related. I used to get pain behind one eye with or without getting a headache. |

I think it sounds like a pressure problem...also might be sinusitis. That can cause eye pain. |
