I discovered a recipe for homemade carpet deodorizer on one of the websites posted by someone in this area and figured out a great, easy way to make a linen closet smell fantastic. The recipe for the carpet freshner is 1 pound of baking soda mixed with one teaspoon of essential oil of your choice.

I've been outfitting a closet in our house to be my linen closet and decided that I wanted to make it smell great. So, I mixed up some of the carpet freshner and then scooped it back into the cardboard box that the baking soda came in and just placed the box in the corner of the closet. It smells wonderful.

My fantasy is a CLEAN, clutter free house that smells great, so this was a great step for me. As far as decluttering, I had a great opportunity this weekend to get rid of all of the bedding that we no longer have a use for. A friend called to let me know that the Red Cross was doing a pick up at her church for some of the victims of Hurricane Katrina who have been relocated to a shelter in a nearby city (I'm amazed that they have relocated them so far from their home in Louisiana to here in Michigan). It was a great feeling to be clearing my home of unused things and providing someone in need with a warm blanket and clean sheets at the same time.

I know I have seen posts from several women who are (were?) located in Louisiana, has anybody heard from them since Katrina came through? I hope that they are safe and all are in my thoughts.

Laura, thanks for the recipe for air freshener. Which EO are you using? I'm going to make mine with lavender oil. I think rose would be nice also.

I heard on the news this weekend that Governor Granholm (sp?) had offered shelter space in Michigan for 10,000 people. Many other states have offered space as well.

You're welcome Susan. I used lavender in my closet freshner and bergamot for the carpet deodorizer I made. I had the lavender on hand and thought it was appropriate for the linen closet since it is supposed to aid in sleep. Both smell really good.

I don't have cable or an antenna, but I did hear through my friend that many people were moved to the Battle Creek area. I'll have to pick up a paper to find out what all Michigan is doing for those that were relocated here. Battle Creek is so close to where we live maybe there is more I can do.

I used up some of the geranium EO I had and it might be my favorite so far. I think it's more affordable than the bergamot as well, but I do love bergamot.
