I just spent the last hour ironing old ticking pieces and it felt so good. The sensation of being still inside- and just admiring the fabric and imagining what it will look like once it is all fit together. I am making baby quilts, just two, out of beautiful European featherbed ticking and they are going to be hard to part with. Eventually I will post them for sale but until then the fabric is mine to play with;

I just love to iron fabric! I love to iron anything. There is something so serene about it. It's especially nice when you have linen water to spray the fabric with -- makes the fabric and the whole house smell good. Can't wait to see your creations.

Oh good, I am so glad to see I am not the only one who loves to iron,,,not clothing but rather linens, aprons & especially vintage hankies.
I use both the steam from my iron and lavender linen water that I home make.
Ironing these wonderful pieces is the best way to get to new all the wonderful details and imperfections that make the linens, hankies & aprons so dear.
Yesterday I hand washed 16 vintage hankies in mild detergent then rinsed in lavender water, hung to damp dry & then ironed them.
Today I have about a dozen scarves & 1 vintage hostest apron to was & iron.
I look forward to it.
Rebekka, Amy & Kay, maybe we should have a "Ironing Bee" hahaha!

I don't mind ironing things that have hung outside to dry but things out of the dryer don't thrill me. Now my mother on the other hand loves loves loves to iron. At age 82 she still irons everything and I do mean everything....my dads boxer shorts, top and bottom sheets, pillowcases, dish towels, you get the picture. Ad a kid I swore she starched and ironed my underwear, I do know that they were ironed. I love her so much.

I love to iron but with little ones and a small house I have a hard time finding a good, safe time and place. When I do it is a real indulgence and I use rose water as my spritz.

Ironing is sooo wonderful! I loved to iron my husband's shirts for work. Something about the way you go about it...collar, left side, right side, yoke, right sleeve, left sleeve...I make my own linen sprays, too and alternate...one day he smells like mandarin, the other, Rose Anise and sometimes bergamot :) I LOVE the sound "sssszzz" when you press a moistened seem. My iron and ironing board we're pricey, but very worth it. Since I don't do any dry cleaning, I wanted top notch "tools" so that when I wash dry clean only items, I can have them still looking professional. I think my iron was $129.00!!

I'm with Katmom! I love to wash, dry and iron my vintage fabrics that I collect. I keep two bottles of EO's... Lavender and Egyptian Rose to add to my spray bottles. Yep, I keep two bottles and decide which aromatherapy I'm in the mood for. 
I don't use the steam feature at all on my big Rowenta iron...it adds to the nostalgia when spraying the cloth and ironing with a dry iron...

oh my gosh, i had to read this post to my husband, cause he and i have little squabbles over ironing. when i read them, he said where do these ladies live?
it's a long story and i'll just cut to the chase and say, i'm right 
anyway, after years we've figured it out, i iron his clothes and he makes my coffe in the morning. ......but i dont know if one of you plays the guitar and hems pants, he may just be outa here!

I'm a big fan of ironing as well...especially when I've just done a load of new fabric and I get to dream about all the fun things I'm going to make with it. I also don't mind doing regular clothes much either as long as it's not something that's got to be done in some fancy way like some dress clothes. I find it very relaxing and a great time to just be peaceful.

Well- the ticking quilt tops are all done and I am about to add the chenille to the back...they are one of a kind. It has been fun to fit all the patterns together and the old ticking feels so good- nice and thick and softened over the years. Thanks to Miss Wilma for sharing her stash!
