I would really love to join a book club and have tried to start one with my friends and neighbours, but no go! So I thought maybe my farmgirl friends would be interested. Soooooo, is anyone interested? We could make one day of the week when we "meet" and discuss our book and then when we are done, someone else could pick a book. Anyway....I would LOVE LOVE LOVE it if this could happen. Thanks,MEL

I would love to do this! My family is always telling me that I read waaaay too much! Of course, I tell them that one can NEVER read too much. I am such a bookaholic (if there is such a word, lol) Right now I have over sixty books in my to read pile, and hundreds of books in the house. I read just about anything although the classics are my favorite. Hope we get lots of lady's who are interested in this. It sounds like fun. Take care, Marcy |

Hi Ladies!
This sounds like a perfect online farmgirl Chapter! How about you start a Book Club Chapter so you can have your very own Henhouse? Of course, only farmgirl sisterhood members can post to the henhouses, but then you get access to all sorts of fun like getting to earn merit badges and such.

I would for sure be interested but the only problem is that I am not able to get on during the day, but I don't guess that would be a problem. Just put my two cents worth in at night. Kathy

I would have fun with this but I don't know if I'd like it to be a chapter, of if it is hopefully we can have our discussions outside the henhouse as I'm not a sisterhood member. I'd be good with it just being out here and having one thread to discuss whatever book we're reading.

Maybe I have had too much fruit juice this morning But I decided to jump in and start a farmgirl chapter called "The Book Worms" for us bibliophiles! I would love it if you all would join me! And we can all work towards having everyone be a Farmgirl Sisterhood member! Wouldn't that be fun?

Now this I can do! Count me in too Alee and keep us posted with the details. (I've actually got to go finish re-reading Eat, Pray, Love for my Thursday night bookclub that a friend and fellow English teacher just started up this year! Looks like I'll be busy reading once again!)

There are some of us that would like to have a book club chapter and some that would not. How 'bout Alee organizes the chapter one and i will organize the non-chapter one and if some would like to "double-dip" than that is okay too!

Linda, I actually enjoyed the book quite a lot; I think Elizabeth Gilbert's writing voice is so engaging! From what I've heard/read online, some people are very much up-in-arms over the book, calling her self-centered, whiney, etc. I suppose that may be true to some extent, but then, I wasn't looking to her for answers to my life problems, which seems to be another general criticism - that many women are calling her their guru and the book their "bible." Whatever... I just enjoyed it for the well-written adventure that it was!

Um, color me clueless, but what's the difference? Will the discussions happen on separate boards, etc? Thanks!

The main difference is that the chapter will be able to have a place in the hen house where sisterhood members can post with each other, if you're not a sisterhood member you can't post there. I guess it'd be up to Alee and Mel to decide if they want to do the discussions together here or do them seperately on both boards.

Hi Ladies!
The "Book Worms" will officially start to exist on Monday morning. Please email me your full real name if you want to join so I can let Brenda know so she can open up access to the Henhouse that will be made at that time.
Yes, only farmgirl sisters can post in the henhouse, but perhaps we can find a way to raise money for those who don't have a membership yet. Maybe even if we just donated a dollar or five each we could "sponsor" some new members.

re: Elizabeth Gilbert's book, Perhaps she is self-centered but highly talented, intelligent people are. I think she sounded childish but I still could relate to alot of it. She's about 20 years younger than me so she is more mature than I was at that age! I have read many books that I liked better but the best part of this book was it is real, not fiction. I would read her next book for sure.

hmmmm, it really doesn't matter to me how/what/where the book club is......I just don't want people that are interested that aren't sisterhood members to miss out. That is why I was suggesting to have two seperate clubs.

Marcy-
You can become a farmgirl Sister here: http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/farmgirl-sisterhood/ once you become a member you can earn merit badges, will receive your very own sisterhood badge, plus lots more. I am not sure what all is on the horizon, but I know that one month MaryJane offered a sale price on her products (food and such) to sisterhood memberships.

I'd be interested, but I'm not a sisterhood member. |
