Krista Davis (#528, MaryJanesNiece) has received a certificate of achievement in Make It Easy for earning an Expert Macrame badge!
"For this badge I made an American flag wall hanging. This wall hanging had multiple different knots and also included beads knotted in.
This macrame project was a little difficult, because the wood dowel was a branch and not completely straight. This made tying knots hard to line up with each other. I also had to redo many parts on the large gaps in between knots on the red and white due to them not being level. Overall I am very pleased with how it turned out and excited to display it for the summer holidays."

"This year my family decided to finally start our own backyard chicken flock. My children and I each picked out our own chick for a total of 5 chicks. I have really enjoyed raising them. We selected a Cinnamon Queen, a Buff Brahma, 2 Easter Eggers, and a Silver Laced Wyandotte.
We have all really enjoyed being chicken owners and expanding on our little farm. I have done a lot of research and learning as we go along on what works best for us and our chicks. I am really looking forward to when our chicks will start laying eggs and we will have our own farm-fresh eggs."

"For this badge I looked through MaryJane's Ideabook and found a ChillOver recipe that really stood out to me. I decided to make the Where'd You Get Those Pies since key lime is a favorite of mine. I then did a taste test of the pie with my children.
The pie turned out great and tasted really yummy. All my kids liked it and devoured the whole pie. I like how easy the recipe was and how pretty the pie looked once completed. It has become a new favorite pie in our house."

I found enjoyment in this badge, because it would push me to find things I am grateful for even on difficult days. Some days were pretty easy to know what I was grateful for, while others forced me to think on a deeper level of what I am truly grateful for. I have been enjoying the book as well. It helps bring to light some of the things people can overlook. "

"I earned this badge by building a birdhouse with a MaryJane's sisterhood theme. It has a penthouse picture painted on it. I also watched birds for months out my window from winter all the way to spring.
This badge was relaxing and fun. I looked at the house and let my imagination help design the outside of the birdhouse. Then I watched the birdhouse all spring and no takers. It was in a tree-covered area and I thought they would like it. It may have not been high enough. So maybe next year they will like it"

My screen wasn't cut correctly and the charcoal covered my pretty rocks, but otherwise it turned out nice. I think I should have started with a different container that was a bit easier to get into."

"I started a food journal, writing down what I ate. I also read "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver. I learned to sprout my wheat berries before grinding them into flour. I also eliminated all hydrogenated oils and artificial sweeteners from my diet.
I discovered that sprouting wheat is a great way to discover how much mold is on the wheat! I had gotten some wheat from a neighbor and before the wheat sprouted the jar was full of mold. Even after freezing the wheat berries in the deep freeze. Luckily, I was able to find some organic Turkey Red wheat that doesn't grow mold while sprouting. Since I make most things from scratch, rather than buying them, it was easy to eliminate hydrogenated oils and use homemade butter. Maple syrup and honey make great sweeteners."

"I looked into local CSA's, I stopped baking so many treats and started eating fresh fruit for dessert, and I eliminated high fructose corn syrup from my diet.
I didn't join any CSA's since I have a garden that supplies most of what I need. I visit the farmers market in town if there is something I need and don't have. I missed cookies for a little bit, but my pants are fitting better and I feel better by not indulging so much."

"Every June I host the annual "June is Dairy Month" swap. This year was the 11th year for some dairy fun!
Every year is turns out fantastic. It is so fun to share my love of dairy farming with everyone. Many farm girls have joined in the swap every year. This year I used some fabric from the milk cow collection to make a drying mat and mug rug for my partner. I received some wonderful hand made goodies from my partner. "

"I have some of MaryJane's budget mix. With the exception of black olives, I shop the perimeter of the grocery store when I need to go. I grow my own meat and most of my own vegetables. I have a barn full of dairy cows for dairy needs. I pick fruit locally when it's in season. I also barter with an organic farmer trading baked goods and canned apple pie filling for sausage.
It is wonderful to know what is in your food and what is not in it. "

"I cranked down the budget and didn't go to the grocery for a month. I'm going to use the extra money to get some tatting needles when I get a chance to look for some.
I'm glad that I can, dry, and freeze the fruits and vegetables I grow. This year the frost damaged the cherry blossoms so there isn't any fruit. Luckily, I have enough left from last year that I don't have to buy some that may not be organic or local."

"I took a cake decorating class a long time ago so for this badge I checked out the Wilton website. It looks like it might have changed since the badge was written - the cake decorating classes are over $100 on the website so I browsed some youtube videos to refresh my memory.
I've only used regular frosting and tips with fun decorations (usually tractors and cows) but I love the way the fondant cakes look. I'm interested to learn more about them."

"I assembled my cake decorating kit with bags, couplers, tips, colors, etc. I then baked a cake and decorated it for my nephew's birthday.
It's a bit embarrassing to show it. It didn't turn out very well. When it's hot and humid the frosting melts faster than I can decorate. No matter how long I left the cake and icing in the fridge before decorating, it still was very messy. But it was delicious!"
