"I attended a book club meeting conducted in Spanish and picked up 40 inter-library loan holds to add to me and my daughter's TBR pile!

Libraries are my favorite third space."

Candy Hogan (Tigger 9777, #8283) has received a certificate of achievement in Make It Easy for earning a Beginner Carp-hen-try Badge!

"For my 2 simple projects, I changed out a toilet seat to a easy soft closing type so the lid no longer can slam down; it gently closes.

I also installed a new smoke with carbon monoxide detector.
I read the book "Dare To Repair".

It was nice to do some simple projects."

Candy Hogan (Tigger9777, #8283) has received a certificate of achievement in Make It Easy for earning an Intermediate Carp-hen-try Badge!

"For this badge I redid our foster care room from what we started with to the 2nd picture for one teenaged girl.

Then, my friend and my husband helped build 2 sets of bunk beds as we got ready for 4 teenagers to be in the room.

Due to the 4 youth trashing the room, we still have repairs to do, but after the teenagers, we have welcomed 6 other little kids since originally fixing up the foster room.

It was difficult at times."

Candy Hogan (Tigger9777, #8283) has received a certificate of achievement in Farm Kitchen for earning an Expert Pay It Forward Badge!

"I have been working on this badge for a long time.

I donated 5 hours (really donated 10 hours) to my local food bank on 4/6/21 and 12/2/21.

I wrote the letter to the Oakley Press Editor on 8/9/24.

I helped package food packs and other items at the local Vetrans Hall for overseas soldiers on 6/4/22.

Finally I have delivered food to the homebound elderly for the last 5 years as I work in home health care and hospice, so grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning are just some of the duties in addition to personal care for my clients. This was done from 3/2020-10/2024.

I took a long time to do this badge."

Kelly Jarr (artsymom, #8114) has received a certificate of achievement in Stitching & Crafting for earning a Beginner Origami Badge!

"I researched the history of Origami, variations of folded paper as art and how origami has evolved. I also learned the three basic fold techniques and practiced them. I finished by taking paper that I had available and created a boat and a crane.

The boat and crane both look as they should though I can tell the geometry is off a bit here and there. Origami is precise and practice will help a lot as I move through the merit badge levels. I enjoy origami, it’s mindful. It also helps that my son enjoys it too so we have something to share."

Candy Hogan (Tigger9777, #8283) has received a certificate of achievement in Each Other for earning an Expert Entrepreneurial Spirit Badge!

"For expert level, I have continued to monitor my listing on Facebook Marketplace.

Many people will respond but not follow through with the purchase. My hardest item to sell is the antique horse carriage.

I am sharing photos of my listings.

I support local small businesses in my town and like to go to the thrift stores to buy used good condition items."

Candy Hogan (Tigger9777, #8283) has received a certificate of achievement in Each Other for earning an Intermediate Entrepreneurial Spirit Badge!

"I have had 2 businesses in the past as well as done contact business cards for volunteer organizations.

For this badge I am selling items on Facebook Marketplace that I no longer need.

Trying to reduce my clutter, I named the business "Kandy's Klutter"

I made an example business card.
Since it is online, I do not need to list an address, phone, email or website.

No start up costs."

Candy Hogan (Tigger9777, #8283) has received a certificate of achievement in Each Other for earning an Expert Lend a Hand to Farm Families Badge!

"Since 2020, the last 5 years, I have been helping the neighbor every time his goats and sheep get out. They have been on my property, been loose on the road and I have even helped his horse mare when she gave birth at 1:30am. Note the cool picture of the foal leg inside the mare."

Heather Neeper (nndairy, #4701) has received a certificate of achievement in Garden Gate for earning a Beginner 3 R's Rule (Reuse, Recycle, Revive!) Badge!

"I recruited my mother in law to help and we punched row markers out of canning jar lids for the garden. I also kept the hoe and shovel clean, sharp, and properly put away when not in use all summer long.

Honestly they turned out pretty bad! But, we had so much fun making them and laughing about it. We used sticks and jute and put them in the garden anyway. It was a fun day that we'll always remember, but I think we'll find a different way to mark the rows next time."

Heather Neeper (nndairy, #4701) has received a certificate of achievement in Farm Kitchen for earning an Intermediate Bustin' Out Badge!

"I continued to find an organic food to try each week for 8 more weeks.

A lot of the food I tried was fruits and vegetables. Some of them I couldn't taste a difference and some I could. One that I found I liked a lot better than non-organic was bananas. I was surprised."

Heather Neeper (nndairy, #4701) has received a certificate of achievement in Farm Kitchen for earning an Expert Bustin' Out Badge!

"I continued to try a new organic food each week for an additional 5 months.

This was a little more challenging to find something I hadn't already tried. The one that surprised me most this time around was the result I had from making bread with organic flour versus non-organic flour. My mother in law commented how good a loaf of homemade bread sounded when I mentioned I was going to make some. I only had enough organic flour for 1 loaf so I used non organic for the other. The organic loaf rose twice as high as the non organic. I wish I had a picture!"

Heather Neeper (nndairy, #4701) has received a certificate of achievement in Garden Gate for earning a Beginner Bee Good to Your Mother Earth Badge!

"I had a garden and used neem oil for organic pest control. I read the book Montrose: Life in a Garden by Nancy Goodwin.

The garden was challenging this year. We had a very wet spring followed by a summer drought. The book was interesting. I didn't like all the scientific names for the plants (I'm unfamiliar with the majority of them) but it was very eye opening to read of an expert gardeners troubles! They're just like mine! Too many weeds and not enough time to get them all, pests bother the plants, plants are planted in the wrong spots to perform their best...makes me feel like I'm doing better than I think in the garden."

Heather Neeper (nndairy, #4701) has received a certificate of achievement in Garden Gate for earning an Expert Backyard Farmer Badge!

"We raise our own beef so for this badge I found an organic farmer to buy chicken and pork from. I also make my own butter and have made cards using pictures of my cows - I especially enjoyed making Christmas cards with my cows wearing a santa hat. This summer my niece took 2 of our calves to the fair.

The organic chicken and pork is much better than store bought meat! I love my butter, and my niece had a wonderful experience showing the calves. She's planning to do it again this year."

Heather Neeper (nndairy, #4701) has received a certificate of achievement in Farm Kitchen for earning a Beginner Canning Badge!

"I researched different types of canning.

I discovered that water bath canning is used for high acid foods, such as fruit, and pressure canning is for low acid foods, such as vegetables and meat. Based upon this I determined that canned corn and green beans would be pressure canned and tomato sauce would be water bath canned."

"Using the water bath canning method I canned pickles and cherries.

They turned out wonderful! My niece and nephew especially love the pickles, and my family loves cherry cobbler made with the cherries."

"Using the pressure canner, I canned green beans and some mixed veggies for soup (potatoes, carrots, and celery).

It was so nice to fill the cupboard with food from the garden. My mom loved the green beans!"

Heather Neeper (nndairy, #4701) has received a certificate of achievement in Each Other for earning an Intermediate Lost Art of Letter Writing Badge!

"I read the book The Art of the Personal Letter by Margaret Shepherd. I also sent cards to friends going through a tough time, family members that were sick, and a thinking of you card to a relative.

I enjoyed the book and am happy to have it on my shelf. It will be very useful for future reference when I'm having trouble figuring out the best way to write something."

They turned out wonderfully and my husband greatly appreciated them!"

Heather Neeper (nndairy, #4701) has received a certificate of achievement in Farm Kitchen for earning an Expert Unprocessed Kitchen Badge!

"For an unprocessed party, I made organic Christmas market inspired foods for our family Christmas eve supper.

We had raclette inspired sandwiches made with homemade organic baguettes, cheese, and our homegrown beef. We had organic spiral potatoes on a stick using organic potatoes, olive oil, and spices.

For dessert I made sugared nuts using organic pecans, eggs, sugar, and cinnamon and pfefferkuchen cookies using organic flour, eggs, spices, and I replaced the sugar with maple syrup made from our trees.

Except for the potatoes being sliced too thick and not quite being done, everything was wonderful. My family enjoyed it and even decided the nuts were much better than the ones they've been buying for years."
