Give me a day off(Monday, President's Day) and what happens? Well, I end up at a couple of thrift stores!. I didn't have quite a 'Nancy Jo' or 'Marybeth' day(no pie birds yet, darn it!). But I had a good time and got a few fun things. two bags of buttons, wooden Disney blocks(just happen to spell 'FARM'), a school box for pencils. three unused canning jar lids(never enough of those) old Pyrex glass casserole dish(half price day - 90 cents), some nice colored pencils(for the box) and a quilted glass syrup pitcher(another thing I have a 'I'm not really a collector' collection of! LOL! a B.C. cereal bowl(use these all the time), a Fireking white cereal bowl and a fireking little mixing bowl. Curiouser and Curiouser as Alice in Wonderland said...this is a fairly large wooden souvenir item sold in Hodgenville, KY. It is a moonshine still. I just couldn't pass it up. How weird that the souvenir industry used to promote one of the very stereotypes we'd like to avoid - the shoeless hillbilly making moonshine! I've never seen such a large or odd marked souvenir thing before. Usually, it's little wooden boxes or salt and pepper shakers.

You lucky girl you, getting off work for the dead Presidents! Those of us who protect your rights under the constitution work NON-STOP for your benefit :)
Such great finds! The block are so cute and I love FireKing items. I try to pick them up whenever I can--what's the pattern on the little bowl? The mixing bowls from the 40's and 50's have the best "weight" and shape and are SO user friendly!!

Jonni - the pattern on the one bowl is the characters from the B.C. comic strip. Is that the one you mean? I have five or six of them. I think they might have been give aways, not sure. I have a cookie jar and a large casserole dish with the people on them. Also drinking glasses and mugs. Yet another 'not a collection' collection! :D

I don't think I've ever seen the moonshine still souvenir before. That is pretty funny to see to say the least.
I remember those pencil boxes. Those were the days. My husband still has one to put miscellaneous guitar things in it.
Looks like you got some great finds. :)

Bev, um I mean Janice ...you thrift shop maven! Nice finds you brought home there Those bags of buttons are simply a riot, cause that is a ton of them! I remember those pencil box things from grade school.
I just cannot resist great treasures at a thrift store...it really gets me into trouble <wink>
