Does anyone have any ideas on boosting an immune system? I was on some high power antibiotics for a month. It totally wiped out my immune system. Now i keep getting colds/flu every few weeks. I just can't seem to shake it. Any ideas are welcome.

Elderberries and echinacea are 2 of my favorites, and they work really well together! You should be able to find them in tincture form, but next year, if you get a chance, make up a bunch of elderberry syrup, cordial, and/or jam, and you can take a little bit daily. it's delicious too!

There are several herbs you can take to boost the immune system. Hyssop is one along with sage. sh**ake mushrooms will boost the immune system as will garlic. Astragalus is used in Chinese medicine too boost the immune system. It starts working within hours of taking and will stay in the system for a few days.

you'll want to take some acidolpholus also to get your intestinal flora back in shape.

I heard that taking a tsp. of apple cider vinegar once or twice a day (you can mix with some water) boosts your immune system, as well as has a bunch of other health benefits. Garlic tablets as well - they are cheap at the store and are great for you!

Whole Foods grocery sells "Immune Booster" vitamins. My 4.5 year old son has been taking them for over 2 months and he is doing great so far. Last year he was constantly getting sick from the other kids in his early childhood class. This winter he has only had one 12 hour virus so far. I am knocking on wood as I write this!

I have been taking apple cider vinegar (2 tablespoons per day, 1 in each in a 12 ounce glass of ice water) since I read about it's benefits here back in the summer. It has done wonders for me. Good luck on finding what works for you.

I second the acidophilus suggestion. Get a good probiotic (a combination of good bacterias) capsule at a health food or supplement store. A majority of your immune system is actually in your gut, oddly enough. Getting it back in balance will help a lot.

I'm all for the elderberry to keep the colds and flu away. It works like a charm. It's been quite a while since I've had to take antibiotics but I just ate good yogurt to take care of the intestinal balance and that worked very well.

Thanks for the ideas! I went to our local herb shop and spent $80. I have a feeling i could have done something cheaper. These are my purchases: Acidophilus, "system booster" for immunity, and some lavendar oil. Anyone have any cheaper ideas? Where do i find elderberry?

Erin, why not google Mountain Rose Herbs and order yourself a catalog (you can also shop directly online) - you can order dried elderberries from there (although they were out when I looked online last). I order all of my herbal products from Mountain Rose - they have a wonderful selection, excellent prices and top quality herbs.
Why not get your feet wet and start making some of your own herbal products - it is such fun and a learning experience too.
Don't recall if anyone mentioned it but fresh ground (mortal and pestle works fine) ginger in a nice cup of herbal tea (I Love Lemon tea from Bigelow is great with this)and some honey instead of sugar. Also Lemon Balm (tincture) is an excellent immune system booster. I do have a few homemade ones still for sale if you are interested - a small bottle lasts forever. I put about 6 drops on a spoon of honey or if you are really in a rush, keep some sugar cubes on hand a put some drops on one!
Blessed be,
