your child's school?

What do you like? What don't you like? What concerns you? What would you change?

Just wondering. My one and only is in 1st grade and I'm trying to decide how happy I am with it.

NOT AT ALL!!! This is one of the main reasons, I like the little town we are moving too, alot smaller. Hopefully more caring staff and parents will be at this new school.

I always wanted to know the student to teacher ratio and if there was an aide in the class to help the teacher out.

I know that it has gone by the way, but along with what has already been mentioned, does it still have recess, gym or physical activity and some sort of creative time.

Cheers,
Heather

I was ALWAYS a volunteer at my kid's school - even when they were in three different ones at once. I thought that was the best way to keep on top of things.

I love my school district. For such a small district, it is VERY good. One of the top in our state. The only difference I would have is to get rid of our new Middle School Principal. She seems to think she is the Queen and we are her lackeys. She also had a whistle at the beginning of the school year, to herd the kids in the hallway. The school board took it away. (I laughed) She looks for trouble too. She came from a large inner city school district to our small rural district.
Our district is rather conservative, and she is too liberal idealed.
It isn't a good fit, and I think her days are numbered.

We have wonderful schools here. I substitute (and I am PTA pres this year) at the elementary school and I can honestly say that there isn't a bad teacher in the school. The principal is a caring sweet gal and it is well run and safe. I just love it!! The middle school is a good one too. They have so many ways to be involved and so many rewards and incentives for citizenship as well as good grades..always extras to work toward and very good programs and teachers. I try to be involved as much as I can there too. I think it is a key thing to be involved..know your children's teachers, and keep up on their assignments and work with them at home as well. I couldn't be happier with our schools here. That wasn't always the case in Calif when my oldest boys were little. I was always involved and even had to have my oldest son changed out of one class to another one time..I fought hard to make sure he got the best teacher and never regretted it.

I LOVE our school and so do our boys. Course I'm the teacher. Just a thought.

My oldest son's school really stinks (high school). They don't care about these kids and want to wait until issues get out of hand before they call home..Ughh. Ya know - don't call the first time it's a problem, wait until the third or fourth time....makes me crazy! I battle with them constantly. It's so bad that my son wants to quit and hubby and I are going to have a talk with him tonight about that.
My two youngest go to Elementary school and I love it! They are always there for thekids and I volunteer when I can. I have always volunteered in the elementary school, even for my older ones. I really like how they have so many extra family nights for all of the parents, and they really encourage parents to visit the classrooms anytime. I stop in my daughter's class when I'm dropping off cupcakes for my son and they are always welcoming. Needless to say they won't be in Elementary school forever...*sigh*

We have a wonderful school system here. Especially the lower grades. They are so family oriented and make learning a wonderful experience for the kids.My own children went there and now our grandchildren go there too! It's a small community and there is a lot of emphasis put on famly and good behavior and values.

We homeschool. We're with a charter, so it is a public school, but we have more choice in curriculum and pacing. I love being able to have more input in my daughter's education. It seems that too much effort is being put on test scores and not enough on actually enabling the children to gain a love of learning. We all have to do what we feel is best for our kids.
