I've been having a non productive cough for 5 months now. I've been to the doctor 4 times and at first we thought it was bronchitis, he gave me prednisone and some antibiotic. I was fine for about 7 week and coughing occasionally, it came back about 2-3 weeks later, and the same thing antibiotics and this time an inhaled steroid. Ok for about 1 week and it came back. Went back, same story new steroid and more antibiotic. Went yesterday, my blood pressure was up (it's never up always within normal limits,) I had a fever,I was coughing alot more, I don't sleep, I have to sleep sitting up and I can't talk alot or take deep breaths without coughing and I wheeze at night. So now I have to see and allergy and asthma speciallist and also a pulminologist(lung doc) ASAP. I swear I just wish someone would tell me what's wrong with me. I haven't slept well in months due to this cough. Sorry for the long diatribe of complaint. I'm just tired and it's 4:30am and I could be sleeping right now.

Ayako-

I am so sorry to hear of your suffering. Something very similar happened to me many years ago. The doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with me, and I kept telling them that I thought I had a piece of plastic stuck in my throat. I had been chewing on a lid from a soda fountain cup (I know...not very bright) and had inhaled a little triangle of sharp plastic. Sure enough, a couple months later of being sick, I coughed and out came the plastic!

So, have you accidently inhaled any foreign objects that might have lodged in your throat?

Any long term stress on your body can increase your blood pressure. I'm really sorry about your coughing. There are some bugs that can make you cough for months. My friend got histoplasmosis while in med school and it made him sick and cough all the time. But I don't really know anything about that or even if I spelled it right. I really pray you find the answer and get to feeling better soon!

I went to the pulminologist today. He says I have GERD. Gastric reflux. That is what is causing my coughing, flu like symptoms, etc. I'm on prilosec and another inhaler. We are going to try this and find out. Dosen't explain the ten tons of mucus I keep blowing out my nose but he suspects I have allergy issues and we are going to do a skin prick test in two weeks. I have a new list of what not to eat and things I need to do to keep my acid reflux down. We'll see what happens. They did a breathing test and I have some damage to my vocal cords because of this and they did an xray and there was nothing significant on there. Just one spot of calcification on my lung about the size of a pencil eraser, probably from when I used to smoke 7 years ago. Nothing too bad and my lungs are clear. The heavy feeling I get in my chest when I lay down is the acid reflux. So we'll see what happens. I was hoping for a faster fix but this will do. Apparently I've been ignoring it too long so there is alot of damage.
