anyone famous or half way famous? I love family history stories. The only famous person in our family and probably only people from Kentucky may recognize his name is my first cousin Terry Wilcutt. Terry was the first Kentuckian to be chosen for the Nasa program and has been the pilot on two missions and mission commander on two more. His brother, Kevin Wilcutt, was the first President Bush helicopter pilot. It seems those Wilcutt boys turn out better than us Wilcutt girls. But then again there is the family history about the Wilcutt that was hung in Oklahoma in the 1800s sometime for horse stealing. I can't wait to hear your stories. Kathy

my dh is related to isreal boone, the brother of daniel boone. my first dh' family had a couple of famous folks in it, so i guess my children have 2 famous relatives. my children's aunt was gene tierney the movie actress and i got to spend a couple of holidays with her when they were young. she was a beautiful person and she was also kind. my children's grandfather was from the family that was part of the prototype for the movie Giant. edna ferber based the character that james dean played on a wildcat oil man who was named glen mc carthy. he was an uncle of my first husand's so i guess he was my children's uncle. i never met him cause as an older man he was kinda reclusive. my immediate family on my side has no one famous that i know of. we were all just "regular" folks. i guess my kids got their good looks and humility from me.hehehehehe....oops, sorry i fell off my chair laughing at myself. good topic, id love to hear from others about famous relatives, or even meeting famous folks.

I'm unaware of anyone famous in my family, but my husband's family were former kings in Iran a few hundred years ago! They ruled for about 300 years. His family tree has been traced back over 700 years!

Texas Frannie...looks like we go back almost together! Squire Boone, the brother of Daniel Boone, is a direct descent in my family. I searched further back and there were quite a few Kings and Queens of England, Spain, and a couple of other places. Gosh, I should drag out that family tree book of mine and comb through it and report back. Who knows...we all may be related in one way or another. :)

i'm not related to anyone famous, but i do come from a long line of trouble makers. my dad's paternal side was a border clan run out of scotland with both the scots and brits after them for stealing horses on both sides of the boarder. my moms family was french/indian fur traders and horse thieves.

My Gma (on mom's side) did a lot of geneology going back to the 1600's, but no one famous. Dad's family was never very big on family history stuff so I'm not sure. I've tried to do some investigating, but not seriously.
XH's family was traced back to John Howland (sp?). He came over on the Mayflower and his house is the only surviving building of the era in Plymouth - never been there though. Also related to one of the Wright Brother's - forget which one. |

jessica, this is too funny, i told my dh that one of my farmgirl friends was also a "boone sister". thats what they call them in his family. i honestly dont know about any famous people in my biological family because i was adopted and dont know anything about my birth parents. i was told my whole life that i was irish, and then about a year ago i got an email asking if i would like to know the name of my biological moom, and since both of my real parents have passed away i thought it would be okay to explore that. anyway, turns out i am not irish, at least on my mom's side, im acadian. it really makes you think what does it all really mean? but i have always enjoyed hearing other folks family stories and who they are related to.....but i also think untimately we are all related to each other.

Well, probably only girls from Louisiana would think this interesting, or not, depending on how they were raised politically, but my maiden name is Long, as in Huey P. Long (The Kingfish) and my father and Huey (and Earl) were 2 cousins. Daddy was a young boy in Tioga, Louisiana when Huey was assasinated. Daddy had the dimple in his chin and I do, too, though (thankfully) not as pronounced.
My friend Kristin (who was born and raised in New Orleans) introduced me to her grandmother and grandfather, but not before telling me that if she remarked on my last name (Long) NOT to be goaded into who I was related to because her grandparents hated him so much!!!! She said that when her grandmother was a young woman, over dinner, the men would talk about how to kill Huey P!!!!

I am somehow related on my Dad's side to former Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey.
My Scottish decendants were once upon a time Irish Kings until they had to resettle in Scotland a LONG, LONG time ago. Not too sure on the dates, I'd have to look it up, if I still have the information lying around. So, I guess when I call my daughter "your Highness" I am not too far off the mark. This is fun!!
