Anyone else have tonsil craters? I still have my tonsils, but over the years they have become cratered. They catch food and then it turns icky in side. Also drainage from my sinuses can get caught and give me a false cold. I have had to train my self not to gag while getting whatever is caught out. Yuck.
This past week I have been feeling fine, but was sounding stuffed up and had a "sore" throat. More just sore tonsils. It felt like how it does when I need to clean them so I kept trying and nothing was getting out. So I had to clean the backs of them which I had never done before and Viola! My sinuses are draining again.
I had a miserable night last night as my body caught up with itself. How silly is this? My body is making itself sick. But I hesitate to have surgery because I am a big scaredy cat. Please tell me I am not the only one with tonsil craters!

My tonsils before they got taken out last year were disgusting and had craters. I got strep throat a lot and the last time I had it, I couldn't get rid of it. Definitely hesitate about surgery, though! Everyone will tell you its worse when you are an adult, and they are right! It was the most horrible thing I have ever gone through. I will take a c-section over a tonsillectomy any day and that's no joke. Maybe you could try gargling with peroxide. When they cut my tonsils apart to look at them, they were really surprised. They said usually the infection is just on the surface, but on mine, the infection was all the way through the tissue, so I suppose it was a good thing I got them taken out. It was awful, though, I can't stress this enough! I lost 25 pounds because I didn't eat for a week. I could feel the scabs hanging on the back of my tongue, which would make me gag and that would hurt. Then, when the scabs fell off, it bled and bled. I would wake up in the night, unable to stop swallowing because it was bleeding so bad. This happened 3 times. I also got some kind of fungus. It was terrible! |

I have this problem but I won't go the surgery route. You can use a solution of 1/2 peroxide and 1/2 warm water as a gargle. When mine look really bad I use straight peroxide as a gargle...just be extremely careful NOT to swallow it. Also a gargle of 8 oz warm water with 1 tsp of salt works very well.
Blessings.... Sarah

I would advise not to use straight peroxide as a gargle..seriously..I just had a dentist visit after gargling straight peroxide and using it for my gums/teeth..and I wound up with a bad chemical burn on my gums..the dentist and hygeinist said that basically the straight peroxide can cause a chemical burn and you can literally just take your finger across your gums and wind up with a long string which is basically the tissue being sloughed off of your gums...and that's what had happened to me...it can make some things worse..not better. They said that "if you must" use peroxide..always!! cut it 50/50 with water and do not use it very often. I learned this the hard way! Luckily my gums have healed but it was extremely painful and that was simply with only 2 days of using the straight peroxide ...so definitely be careful girls!

HEY! I get these too Seems more prevelant after I eat popcorn for some reason.
I can always tell when they are there. I get the bad breath and that feeling that something needs to get out of the back of my throat
As a whole I'm very healthy otherwise |

I have had the craters and my grand daughter also. She reaches in, just as you do, Alee and cleans them out. She needs to have her tonsils out but at 21 does not want the surgery. I am going to pass these suggestions I have read to her. I have not had them for several years now, but you can feel them, my breath did stink and it was not pleasant. I am glad this was written about because I don't feel so weird.

Anna- You have to get yourself used to it. I gagged the first several times I did it, and then for some reason, I just got used to it. It's not pleasant, but atleast it usually get the job done! :D
