HELP! The cashmere/merino sweater I knit for my baby got some peach baby food on it and molded in the diaper bag for a few days before I found it. The sweater is gold, the mold is blackish-green. I've tried already spot-cleaning with a little laundry soap, but it didn't help much.
It's a lovely little gansey and I'd hate to have to get rid of it. I wanted it to be a keepsake.

Try spot treating with lemon juice. Saturate the area with the juice and let it sit for twenty-four hours. Then rinse in cold water. Then let me know how it turns out and we'll go from there. DON"T use heat of any kind. If anything, bagging it and throwing it in the deep freezer would kill the mold spores but it won't remove the stain. Let's go with lemon juice first.

Good Luck and be sure to tell me how much mold is killed by the first lemon juice treatment.

Okay. Some of the green has faded. Maybe by 35%? There are still a couple of very dark green spots. Part of the problem may be that it is still very humid in Vermont and the sweater has not really dried yet. Should I tumble dry w/o heat?

Oh, and for those who think I'm looney -- this is a washable yarn.
