Ebay is changing things so that only buyers may leave negative feedback. On one hand, this allows buyers to complain with no fear of retaliatory feedback. On the other, I have buyers who complain about the least little things - or complain about things specifically stated in the listing (that they didn't read carefully).

Also - the Final Value fees are going up.

I think this might be the end of me selling on Ebay.

I have never sold anything on Ebay, but it would seem only right that a seller could rate a buyer. Hmmm..

Can you believe how much those final value fees are going up? I sell quite a few books on there, but I am like you, it may not be worth it any more.

I just found out that you can't stipulate anything about paying with paypal. It has to be by credit card. They used to let you sell and say that you would accept non credit card paypal but not anymore. So I won't be selling that way because paypal takes a fee for credit card purchases. The fees have just gotten to much for me.

I've never sold anything on e-bay. What's a final value fee?

I am so turned off by ebay and so in LOVE with etsy!!! It is so much easier to list items that are handcrafted or vintage and the customers are FABULOUS;) You BOTH leave feedback and people are very good about it, ebay's feedback is so convoluted now that I don't even try. By the way Peanut, your sling is on it's way...

I received my sling yesterday!! It's so beautiful. I wish it fit now, but my belly is a bit big (not two mention those two huge melons on top!) - I'm sure it will be perfect after the baby is born.

Thanks so much, Rebekka!!

Jennifer,
I am sure it will fit you like a glove! If not don't be shy, I have two more yards of that fabric tucked away and I aim to please;)

I also am miffed/perturbed that they are being sneaky about explaining their changes, so that the fees that they are dropping (ever so slightly) they are making a big deal about, but the increases in final value fees, which are huge, they are calling an adjustment. Why can't they just tell it like it is? I sent them a note and they sent me back a boilerplate answer. Ugh.

Final Value Fees are the commission on the final selling price that eBay charges to the sellers. For the first $25, the fees are going up from 5.25% to 8.75%--huge increase.

The buzz is that a bunch of artists who have been selling at eBay are moving their businesses to etsy. Good news for those at etsy who already have existing shops especially when new businesses bring their existing customer base with them.

That IS a huge increase. And both the buyer and the seller should be able to express opinions about a transaction. Why are they muzzling sellers? I study everyone's comments when I'm looking at an item and checking out feedback. I can learn a lot from both sets of comments. This is sad about ebay. I've been cheated twice in about 150 transactions, and the good dealers outweighed the bad just way over the moon. I've dealt with wonderful people on ebay. Darn. Can you sell anything on etsy, or handmade items only?

I wondered about that too Janice. I sell cotton bolls from the field on Ebay - can I do that on Etsy?

Did I read somewhere about a boycot of Ebay sometime in February. If anyone knows about this would you let me know.
My advice Janice and Jennifer is to go to Etsy and view the different categories. I know there is a Vintage que, but you may have to ask administration about certain products. That wasn't a lot of help was it? Anyway, if anyone knows about the boycot I would like to know.

I'd like to know about the boycott, too. I'll make sure to stay off if there is one.

The boycott of eBay will commence the week of February 18th. Those of us participating have chosen to neither buy nor sell during that time. It is a way for a lot of smaller sellers to band together and have a large voice. Join us!

You can sell in three categories on Etsy. Handmade, Vintage (over 20 years old) and supplies (handmade or commercial). The ebay boycott runs from Feb 18-25.

According to what I have been reading...There is a new CEO and he is making some changes as far as the image of ebay goes. He feels that ebay is negatively perceived as a "big flea market". Many sellers have left over the past few years because of fee increases, which obviously results in less income for the company. The stock is dropping in value and their profit margin was only 2% in 2007. Statistically, 60% of items listed there do not sell. By lowering LISTING fees they are saying they will "give sellers a break", but by upping fees on SOLD items, they get a bigger chunk of the pie. I think it's basically their way to recoup losses over the past few years.

TMI? Told you girls I do my homework! LOL

Thank you Rhonda, I'd rather be informed:) hm I noticed they tend to advertise more on tv too. I liked it when it was newer and I still love the feel of etsy, though I have trouble going through all the stuff in a category :-p lil overwhelming for my ADD like tendency.

Thanks Rhonda, I will definitely join this boycott because I think that much of a jump in fees is absolutely rediculous.
