Ok....after taking a day or so to be a grump and depressed, I have decided to do something about my health. Weekly, if ya'll don't mind, I will post something positive we can all try for better health.

Today, I watched Oprah and got some great information. I love Dr. Oz!! He is awesome, straight forward and cute to boot...

"Dr. Oz says he makes a breakfast drink for himself many mornings that he calls his green drink.

What's in Dr. Oz's green drink?

2 cups spinach
2 cups cucumber
1 head of celery
1/2 inch or teaspoon ginger root
1 bunch parsley
2 apples
Juice of 1 lime
Juice of 1/2 lemon

After everything is combined in a blender, this recipe makes 28 to 30 ounces—about three to four servings. Oprah takes a sip and is pleasantly surprised. "It's a glass of fresh," she says.

Dr. Oz's second drink might not be as pleasant, but it's still important—a shot of cod liver oil. "First of all, cod liver oil has the right kind of vitamin D in it—vitamin D3. That's why people who live in the north lands who don't get any sun at all can still survive. It's got the healthy fats that you want in it," Dr. Oz says."

If you go to Oprah's website, todays show talked all about getting healthy in good, natural ways.

Who is in with me???

Cheers,
Heather

Can't you put the cod liver oil in the glass of fresh? I dunno, Heather. I'm all for you being happy and healthy, but do I have to drink that with you? I'll make a smoothie and you can have your glass of greenfresh stuff...it's cool, I like dairy alot anyway :)

Seriously, good for you for taking care of YOU.

Ha!! Jonni- I guess you could!! I add flax seed oil to mine. Smoothies are awesome too. When I got real sick about 5 years ago, I lived on 100% fruit smoothies, as they were the only thing I could swallow and tolerate at the time and boy, I was got really healthy and my skin never looked better. I have a hard time with dairy, so I just do fruits and vegetables themselves or blends, depending on what is in season.

I want us farmgirls to be healthy and strong, so this is going to be fun.

Cheers,
Heather

Sounds good to me! If you have any smoothie recipes, I'd be game. I was going to make the granola recipe from the Farmgirl cookbook this weekend, but this would be wonderful for quick stuff before work. I have to go to the grocery first, though :)

One of my favorites is taking frozen organic strawberries, fresh pineapple and a one fresh peach. Add a little water and blend!! Yummy!!

I also like 1 banana (kinda ripe but not too ripe), 1/2 cup of spinach ( I know, sounds icky, but try it), 1 tablespoon of Agave nectar and another fruit of your choice ( I like blueberries) and a little water, blend.

You can substitute dairy such as milk, soy, nut milks, rice, etc..but I like to keep mine fresh and raw. They great thing is when we went on vacation to Texas 2 years ago, I just had had my son and I felt run down. I brought my blender and we had just a little refrigerator and I bought fresh fruit and made smoothies for us. Even DH likes them and he is a steak and potatoes kinda guy!! Charlie likes them now too- especially strawberry and pineapple.

Cheers,
Heather

I'll give them a shot, thanks, girls. They sound sooo yummy, and refreshing! I wish I had stuff to whip one up right now. I think my dh would probably like them, too...he's not a fruit person (texture) but he likes milkshakes and slurpees....so I think I could make it happen for him ;)

I use any kind of dark green leaves, a handful in two cups of distilled water, you can add a half of cucumber to sweeten it, blend in a blender for two minutes, strain if you wish. Drink one glass everyday. The distilled water gets the nutrients out of the leaves. When I consistently drink this I have much more energy. Pam

I tried that Dr Oz recipe & although I thought it tasted OK, for some reason, whenever I thought about it for the next day or so, I would bet that barfy burpy feeling. I let hubby taste it (& he eats almost ANYTHING) & he said "That is DISGUSTING"
I guess I could do it every once i a while, but not everyday like he does
Heather I'm with ya gal though.. he is CUTE!(& I agree with everything he says)

do green smoothies- you could do that daily I guarantee. fill your blender with spinach, kale, parsley etc... with some water. blend this up.. then add a couple of bananas and frozen berries. add more water if needed. You can't taste the green at all.

you will love it.. I have been dying for one but I am lowcarbing. I can't have bananas. but I think I am going to use mori nu silken tofu instead. This will give the smoothie a creaminess. I could use vanilla whey protien powder too.. It is soooo vital to eat lots and lots of greens each day.

Ok, I've been inspired. I always think that I need a juicer to do this, but I'll hop on board the next time I go to the store. The more that I read in this forum, the more I realize that I don't have to "settle" into the extra 10 lbs. that have been dragging me down!
Thanks for the inspiration!
