I just checked this out (not that I have a small farm, but I was curious about other topics). I saw that "Organic Gardening" and "Herb Gardening" are also available. I know we have some experts out there. |

Thought I would let everyone know that I got the job writing about small farms on about.com. THANK YOU MARY JANE!!
After seeing your post I decided to apply. It was a very busy and hectic few weeks. In two weeks time I had to write 7 blogs, 10 articles, and 5 "essentials". This was the easy part. About.com stated that their writers had to know the computer web language HTML. I knew nothing about the language. But using good old fashioned farm girl stubborness I taught myself the language in few days ( well at least enough to publish my stuff :).
It paid off. Five people had been selected to go through the evaluation process. This morning they offered me the job!!! Now the work really begins. I will be going live in the next month. WISH ME LUCK!!
I hope all of the farm girls here will come and visit. Also please let me know of any topics you would like to see covered on the web site.

Thanks for all of the good vibes![](icons/icon_smile_cool.gif)
If you are looking to do this do not be put off by the HTML. It looks a little overwhelming but it really is pretty simple.
Wouldn't it be great if there were a whole gang of MJ Farmgirls writing about farming, gardening, herbs, simple living, etc...
Talk about getting the word out!

Thanks Alee! I really appreciate the offer.
The HTML looked really intimidating at first. But it really isn't as hard as I thought. Though I am sure there will be questions.
I wonder how many great opportunties we miss not because we didn't try, but because we were afraid to try. Last year I decided that I would not let the fear of failure cause failure itself. So I learned to white water kayak. I LOVE IT -Started a farm business - which took off so fast that we had to slow down so that we could be ready for the next level.
Hmmm maybe there is something to this can do attitude ![](icons/icon_smile_big.gif)

Hi farmgirls, I'm wondering if someone can help. I clicked on the link for the small farm writer, but there's no choice for "small farms". Am I missing something? Any direction appreciated! Thanks, Karen

Karen, you missed something in the thread. Tamara (corporatefarmgirl) got the job. It's not in the dropdown anymore because it's no longer available. We're just talking about the coding now because some of us plan to keep checking back and see what other opportunities come along. |

Thanks JO -
Amie - If I am understanding this correctly the HTML is an older version of XML. If you know XML then you would be in great shape.

xml can be substituted for HTML. XML is the more advanced version and creates the ability to have layers and such. HTML is pretty basic, you just have to remember to use the proper <> and remember which tags to use such as img src="dkdkd.jpg" to do a picture and such.

Yes, that image coding looks like a super-abbreviated version of what I would use. I had never done any kind of coding before I started at this job two years ago (I'm a manuscript editor at a legal publishing company), so I don't know how it is connected to anything else in the outside world.
I would imagine that About.com articles are mainly paragraphs, itemized lists, and images. Now if only I had some subject expertise...I doubt they will ever want a guide on a topic like Victorian literature!

About.com I think is trying to get a handle on just about any topic. Keep an eye out- Maybe they will have a topic just perfect for you!
