Our county has been declared an avalanche disaster area as of last night. No school again today (4 days in a row now). Several county roads have caved in with snow and are totally impassable. Folks are stuck at their homes. The county doesn't have the equipment to get through the avalanches so, by declaring us a disaster, they can get the equipment needed to re-open the roads. Most roads (except for the main highway) are down to one lane. The plows have no where to push the snow anymore.

I've been here for nine and half years and this is the first time this has happened since I've been here. The snowfall has just been incredible this year. We've had this much snow in the past, just not all at once. It appears we won't be having any water woes this summer!

Hi Lisa!

Yes, the snow this year has been amazing! And Idaho City got more than it's fair share, didn't it?

The road I drive to work has been slowly getting more and more narrow as the snow plow has fought a good fight to move the snow. Now they are out there wtih the snow plow and a front end loader moving the snow back from the edge of the road. In some places it is still barely a one laner, but they are opening it up pretty quickly. In town roads are closed, some on major streets as crews work to scrape the snow off the road and get it loaded into dump trucks. They are using an undeveloped park as the snow graveyard and it is already filled up. I am not sure where they are going to put it next.

It's amazing to see how much snow can build up so quickly! There is about a 3 foot wide snow burm from the snow plow in front of my house and the icicles are getting to be massive!

So, Alee, you're pretty snowed in up there, too, huh? You don't usually get that much snow do you? I always thought your area up there was relatively mild. Or are you not part of the Banana Belt?

Having this much snow is pretty cool. I so love the snow. But after shoveling my place and Rose's (with dh help, of course), twice a day, every day, for a week; I really feel burned out now. But Rose was sooooo grateful that she didn't have to trudge through 3' of snow or have to shovel when she got back. All that work was worth the look on her face when she saw how much more snow had fallen. Thankfully, we only got a couple inches yesterday. And I just heard we have another storm coming in tomorrow.

Dh is shoveling off two more roofs today that are dangerously heavy with snow and ice. We've shoveled our own roofs off twice, now. With this much snow, I know I'll be shoveling out my flower beds in the spring, too!

Lisa- The banana belt is pretty much just the Lewiston/Clarkston area. We are a whole different weather pattern up here. But we still haven't got as much snow as you guys did!

Be careful what you wish for is what I'm being told now. Yes, I wished for lots of snow daily, but I've stopped doing that now. And it's still coming down. The judge came in this morning and told everybody it was MY fault we had so much snow. HE was doing the same thing which I pointed out. He was only joshing. It was kind of funny. He keeps bees and is having a hard time keeping them shoveled out. He has no where to throw any more snow either.

Well, believe it or not one of our city streets caved in with snow. The city crew is working to clean it up. I have no idea where they are going to put it. The high school football field parking lot is maxed out. This snow is just getting crazy this year. We only got 6" last night instead of the 9-14 they were calling for. But it is still snowing.

Alee, are you getting any of this storm up your way? I wonder if we're going to break any records this year?

We had a little snow storm last night but really what is causing the most "damage" today is the snow. The snow is trying to move all of the snow piles that the snow removal crew has put up. The wind seems to think that snow in the middle of the road is pretty...can't the snow removal crew see that? LOL It just blows my mind because in the part of Wyoming where I am from...a snow drift MIGHT get to be 6 inches high. We hardly ever have wind so snow generally stays where you put it.

I had a dream the other night that "they" dug a pipeline from snowy Idaho and the Sahara. Then they started melting all the snow water and just dumping it down this pipeline and the Sahara turned into a rainforest overnight! LOL

Wow, your dream sounds just heavenly! How would it be to turn a desert into a rainforest?

Can you imagine how it would shift the global climate to have the world's largest desert turn into a rain forest? I know the heat and dryness of the Sahara actually powers a lot of the weather patterns around the world.
