You know, the first one that comes to mind was the saying that some food or meal would "stick to your ribs". When I was little I kept picturing strings of spaghetti and globs of pb&j hanging all over my ribs!

Oh we always said that it was colder than a well digger's butt! The one that always gets folks around here giggling is "ever since I was knee high to a duck".

We always said someone was "dyed in the wool"...such as "He's a dyed in the wool Republican/Democrat". It describes someone who's characteristics or opinions will never change. I looked this up online...thought it was interesting.

"Three divergent theories (though similar in concept) have emerged regarding the etymology of the phrase:

1. The natural colors of a sheep's wool were impossible to completely subvert - for example, a black sheep's wool would be darker than a white sheep's wool when dyed the same color. Thus, "dyed in the wool" implies that some features are inherent and immutable in people.
2. Pieces of clothing that were made with pre-dyed wool yarn often had a richer tone than pieces dyed after they had been sewn together. This was because certain areas of the fabric weren't hit as thoroughly by the dye. Thus, a stronger sentiment or idea might be described as being "dyed in the wool."
3. Clothes and blankets made of wool generally tend to have a longer-lasting colorfast ability. Thus, something "dyed in the wool" tends to be more unwavering and consistent over time.

My Gramp always said something crooked or off center was "Kattywhompus". I named my business after that funny word, and him.

Her lips are redder than a possum's butt in pokeberry season! LOL When I heard that, I just about fell out of my chair laughing. Didn't know what pokeberries were until we moved here ... they're all over the place here!

I had a teacher in high school that had a sign in his classroom. "If you sleep with dogs and you may wake up with fleas" .... meaning dont sleep with just anyone.

My granny would say to us kids when we got up in the mornings. "Youngin your head looks like a stump full of granddaddy's". Meaning that our hair was really messed up.

"Dog-and-a-half-long-and-half-a-dog-high" was what Grandaddy called basset hounds. He also used to say, "It'll feel better once it quits hurting."

One of my friends in college once said "she's prettier than a new set of tractor tires..." and another ole saying was "she's hotter than a coondog on a fresh track."

If we were out and we needed to leave, my mom would say "make like dog doo and hit the trail."

There used to be a commercial featuring men with "bad" pickup lines. One of them was a man with a distinct southern accent saying, "Honey, you look better than a new set of snow tires!".

None of us could figure out what was so bad about that - that's high praise!
